This is kind of off subject but, I am bored out of my mind. We have Directv and they just brought out new high def receivers and a new dish this past Tues. Friday night it just quit working all of a sudden. No storms or anything. Have about five hours involved talking to people who I can't hardly understand on the phone just to tell us they can't fix it. Imagine that! OK, so I need a repairman. No big deal, we will get someone right over there. NEXT TUESDAY. The wife and I are one thing, but the kids like to watch their cartoons and stuff also. Needless to say they are botherd, but we had a birthday party here this weekend also. I don't think anyone really cared but not being able to watch what ever you wanted sucks when you are paying for a service. The bad part is we couldn't even get local channels. Nothing but DVD's all weekend. By Tuesday I'll now Tombstone by heart. Sorry to rant but like I said I was bored and aggrivated. Thanks.

We had our satellite go out about a month or so ago from a real bad storm. That was on a saturday morning. We called right away and they said no biggie they could fix it. But they wouldnt be out til wednesday!!! Thats 5 days!!! I was sick those 5 days. That was awful. I just laid around and played on the interenet b/c we had no tv. I like Directv service and the price is great, but I really hope that never happens again.

Usually Direct TV will add programming or give you discounts or something to make up for the problems. They have me anyway!

when that happened to me i told them to delete the 6 days off my bill. after calling them every day about 10 times a day they finnaly deleted 5 days off my bill but there was a alot of pissing and mouning to get that. what else did i have to do i couldnt watch tv.

i used to have directv for several years, i started having trouble with my reciever, i called them & they told me i needed a new one. I asked about upgrading to a dvr type system, they told me $120.00. I called dish, they set me up a 2 room system & did not charge for set up.

Now I just have trouble finding the channels I am looking for. lol

I just tried to get a HD DVR reciever upgrade from them and they wanted $199 to LEASE the reciever along with a long contract extension. Plus it was 2 weeks before they could even install it. It took forever to get the person on the phone to understand ENGLISH. I just cancelled the order. I am looking at changing my service. Mabey to an English speaking company.

CHRIS !! I HAVE DISH BEEN OUT SINCE FRI. !! HAD A CORPORATE TECH . COME OUT YESTERDAY !! WOULDN'T GET ON THE ROOF , WHERE THEY PUT THE DISH AT !!! SAID HE WASN'T ALLOWED TO GET ON THE ROOF !! SAID I HAD TO CALL A SUBCONTRACTOR !! CALLED THEM TODAY TOLD THEM TO EITHER FIX IT OR TAKE IT OUT !! THEY PUT THE DISH WHERE IT'S AT !! SHOULDN'T BE MY PROBLEM !! MIGHT HAVE TO SWITCH TO DIRECT TV ! I'LL FIND OUT TOMORROW !!!

I have had Dish HIDef for years with no problems.

Soon, alot of TV stuff will be on the internet. It's coming!

I have my computer hooked up to my HiDef TV and do my message boards sitting in my LazyBoy. I can switch to satellite or internet with a click. I record my dogs on HiDef camcorders, upload it to a file on my computer and watch my dogs perform on HiDef with surround sound. A sign of the times we live in.

LOL I just wish I had either one!! I got a T.V., a VCR, and a DVD Player and that's it!! Not having Direct or Dish helps Motivate me to get up and go hunting instead of sitting on couch watching the same ole movies.

Whenever you call them be sure and tell them that Dish has a new deal out and you are going to consider switching unless Direct TV will give you ______. We've got HBO and local channels at different times and we currently get local channels for no extra charge because of this.

HD sure is nice, though! Once you watch that for awhile its hard to go back to watching something else.

Hey Mike,I have unplugged it several times, unhooked and rehooked all the wires, pushed the red button untill my finger hurts. Then went out and messed with the little splitter box on the wall outside and a ground wire was loose. Tightend it and shazamm it worked. Got in the shower and the wife said it ain't working again. Came home today and it works, but says aquiring guide info. Now as I have been typing, the mother f ing thing has lost signal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is about to get threw in the yard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How can it go from working to not working like that. What a pile of poo! I can't stand junk and this is getting close to that. It is very madding to deal with something as simple as this and it not work.

I'm already on hours and still nothing except were sorry and we will be there Tuesday. They said they would prorate the bill or some crap but all I want is to watch the **** TV like we are paying for. Would be different if the stuff was old but it didn't make it a week.

Try adjusting the dish, if it says trying to aquire guide info than its not picking up a good enough satelite signal. If you have a compass check to see if it is aimed to the right satelite.

I am a directv tech. Adjustings your sat. yourself, you may get lucky and get signal...u need a bird dog, or a tech to come out and hook their bird dog up to it in order to peak your dish.....75% of all service calls are for dish alignment....Everyone will be getting a free dish upgrade by the end of the year if you havent already...Technology advances so fast

What an upgrade. Installed Tues. Broke by Friday. On for four days then off for five. Nothing against you Steve or anything like that but man it was aggrevating. What bugged me the most was it came on when I tightend the loose screw then went back out. Then get home yesterday and just for grins try it and it comes on for about 20 min then back off the rest of the night. The tech was supposed to come today and it is on now so who nows.

What screen shows up when "it goes out"....what did they upgrade you to? recievers and dish....what i mean is what does your dish look like? is it bigger than your previous 2 dishes i'm guessing and does it say slimline in rather large letters on the dish?? if it does does it have a single or three prong LNB (thats the white device at the very end of the arm that comes from the dish.....Could be a number of things....if you would could you turn your directv on and with your remote hit the menu button...the next screne that showns up scroll down with the arrow keys to "satellite" click on that and that should bring you to a screne that will show you your transponders and sat. signal strength...If you get that far tell me what it is displaying?

Also, are you losing just your core progaming or are you losing your locals as well?? and when it "works" does the HD work?

I had direct nothing but problems, switch to dish network and 5 years no problems. plus in oct you can watch coonhunting tv on dish.

Just in case you don't know. You can watch tv online. Not current. Just a day behind in most cases and in HD. I don't even record on the vcr anymore.

Thanks Steve!! The tech was able to come out Tues. and got it working. Said he didn't really find anything wrong just replaced a bunch of stuff. He did leave his number and said if we have anymore problems to call his work phone and he would take care of it. I appreciate it when people are willing to do their job and have some pride in it. Hope to never have to call him but who knows. Oh, when it went out it was everything. Used to atleast be able to watch the locals.
