has anyone ever used peelings from shrimp in a trap to catch a coon? I know when i have peelings left over dont take em long to start really stinking good and always draws a cat or dog to my trash. Now as cold as its been i figure you need something reeking to really get one easy. So ive got a bowl of shrimp peels and a Little Debbie's Oatmeal cake and ill see what happens. Put it down by the creek. Just curious if anyone had every tried the shrimp peelings before.

THEY WORK GOOD..TAKE AN OLD STOVE PIPE AND NAIL 1 END SHUT WITH A PEICE OF WOOD SIT IT UP AT A 45 DEGREE ANGLE DROP THEM PEELINGS DOWN IN IT AND WIRE IT UP TO A TREE AND THEY SLID DOWN IN IT AND CANT GET OUT SIMPLY PUT A BUCKET OVER 1 END OF IT THATS OPEN AND YOUVE GOT MR COON LIVE AND FULL OF FLUFF THERE ISNT MUCH HE CAN DO ONCE YOU TURN HIM UPRIGHT BUT FALL OUT AND COME TO LIFE..WORKS GOOD FOR MINKS ALSO..

i live in ohio, and shrimp is by no means a natural feed ,but we do have craw-fish . which is a great bait for our coon . unfortunately ,it is also a great bait for skunks , and grinners. so i would say try it , but walk light footed when you check your trap.

I have trpped for almos 30 yrs. and a coon is a scavanger and will eat anything except an onion. I use peanutbutter in my cage traps... this sticks and doesn't wash away very easy when it rains. They will find it as long as it is in a well traveled area. Remember they hunt for living.

I thought the same thing about shrimp peelings and then i tried a whole lobster, nothing touched the lobster, i think i caught a possum with the peelings

I use peanut butter and grape jelly sandwich works good for me
plus I don't catch cats with it Glynn

i use marshmallows works great we have got lots of skunks and cats so you need something that wont catch them just remember coon comes to trap so location is very important.

I couldn't say whether or not your set location is good or not, but I do know if your set location isn't good the best bait in the world will not make it any better.

In fact, when trapping coons I much prefer blind sets over baited sets.

Never used Shrimp, but I'll bet they eat it. I've used all kinds of stuff before, they are not picky.
Old Banana's seemed to be a real favorite.
They like potato chips
Baked taters
Rock hard sugar cookies
Cat Food
Grapes
Marshmallows
Cantaloupe Rines (sp?)
Strawberries

A possum or two will eat this also. Caught our barn cat twice with the strawberries. Have Fun!

well the trap was tripped this morning. seems what ever it was tried to get in from the back. Tighted the trigger up a bit, so if it moves the cage some it wont trip as easy as i had it. Will check tomorrow morning again.

well didnt have any luck in this cold with the shrimp peels. Moved the trap and went back with a good old sweet cake.
