it takes time and the dog just ride em up there with older dogs and if its in them thay will pick up on what to do

I have heard of peple using training scents to train dogs to rig however I have never used the method.

I don't have big game hounds, we hunt coon. We rig hunt about 90% of the time for coon. Never had a problem with getting a young dog to rig, mostly start them out with an experience rig dog.

Have started a couple of young dogs by themselves, I take a caged coon and set it out somewhere out of sight of the two track upwind of the trail. Get the young dog and drive slowly past the cage. If the young dog show any interest at all when you drive past the cage cut them loose. Usually don't get much of a strike at first, watch the dog close and you see any sign of the dog winding or getting excited in any way cut them loose. Usually won't bark at first.

Good luck, hunting with a rig dog (coon) is fun and you have a lot more control of where your dog is going to go.

Probably will be a little harder to get a bear in the live trap!

yea you don,t wanna try the trap thing might not go over too well. i bear hunt plotts and the best way i have ever gotten one to rig is as follows: take a tanned bear hide put training sent on it drag it across a road and leave it with in sight.( only works if you can get them excited on a drag) anyway just ride past it and progrerssivaly move it further and further out of sight til you can drag it a good distance and hang it in a tree. you can also use this method to judge what kind of track your pooch can run. just by varying time betweem dragging and riding over it. also gets them used to going the right direction and not tsking the back track. but you got to remember not all dogs will be rig dogs. but heres you a lil hint on having an outstanding pack. only keep the ones that can run and tree their own bear from start to finish. get bout four like that and you got it whooped. but thats easier said than done. takes a long time. ive only ever owned four like that. two are dead cause of mean bears and staying without dogs and two are tied in my front yard. best of luck to you if i can be anymore help just hollar.

Yea i had a yound lipper male walker who was doing it he got kill by a mean bear and my bluetick tree it after he got killed i got a bluetick who will take a hot track and tree it by herself she will talk a old track with another dog I got me a plott and another walker i am trying to get started so thanks for the help
