I have and love the garmin gps tracking system and i all so love to hunt in the ukc night hunts when ever i have the time.in saying this,why would ukc not alow the garmin to be use in a night hunt if all cast dogs have a collare and a non hunting judge have the tracking unit.#1 benefit - the judge would be able to see if dogs are getting close to a road and call time out so no dog would get killed in a night hunt like so often this has happened.#2- judge could see if dog that has been declared treed is moveing or realy treed as this has happened to me before has soon as dogs are about out of hearing it never fails some one will call there dog treed.just a few things that could make a good and fair hunt with the garmin.

not all places have enough judges to use a nonhunting judge, and not everyone can afford to buy the new GPS tracker. you couldn't put a stiplation on night hunts that you have to have one or you can't hunt, because you would exclude so many people. i fully plan on purchasing one in the near future, but i know others who couldn't afford it if they had to. JMO

I have the system like i stated and i have 4 collars engough for a full cast so why would ukc not allowe it to be used,and UKC SHOULD USE THEM IN ALL FINALE CAST IN LARGE HUNTS LIKE GRAND AMERICAN,WINTER CLASIC AND SO FORTH.

I'll venture a guess that they don't want to see these hunts turn into a video game. Tracking collars and radio trackers have been around for years. They have never been allowed during time in and I have never heard anyone suggest they should be. Anyone who doesn't feel they are qualified to judge a cast without electronic surveilance can pass the card to someone who can.
On the other hand, how do we know UKC doesn't have a plan in the works for such a thing right now? I sure hope not.

NO I AGREE,no gps should be the judge what im saying is #1 it will save are dogs lives.and if you ever hunted with one and if you are waitting to call your dog treed until the garmin shows it treed then you are way to late.

If you are constantly worried about your dog being run over your in the wrong sport. I have a gps and hunt with another guy that has one He is always walking around the woods watching his Gps wanting to know where the dogs are I told him put it in his pocket and listen to the dog let his ears tell him what the dog is doing not a GPS unit.

A dog climbing a Steep bank would not signal that it was treed with a GPS collar. It is not on a mercury switch like the standard collars. When the dog has been in a stationary position for several seconds, without much movement, it indicates the dog is treed, sitting or on point. But I still would not be in favor of using a GPS during time in.

a big part of the competition is knowing what your hound is doing and making the right calls your hound safety bit is already there they can wear the collar but the unit stays in the truck during hunt time. why not put a camera on the hounds this way you could sit in the clubhouse and watch it on tv lets get real. i'm sure glad ukc saw what was coming and put into the rules the unit stays in the truck and it's clearly stated being the gps has a screen showing where your dog is there was a special rule written for i and the penaties for carrying it during hunt time

Not all dogs treed can turn the tree switch on and keep it on even though they are legitimitly treed. And i use mine in hunts, but by UKC policy rules. It is off during the hunt
