Shotgun Question

I have a shot gun that has been in my family since at least my Great Grandfather, maybe even longer but that far as I know. It is a Lignose Double Barrell Side-by-Side, I'm not sure what guage it is, looks to be either a 16 or 20 guage?

I've never shot it, it is too old and I'm afraid to damage something if I do. I'm not looking to sell it or anything, I have looked all over to try and find out info on this gun and can't. I would like to find out if there is somewhere that I can buy replacement parts to make it where I could shoot it again. I know my Grandfather shot it all the time before he died, he would use it to hunt squirrel. If anyone has any info or a place I could find info I would appreciate anything and everything....

Thanks All

Brandon

If that has the damascus barrels then don't load and shoot it. If it was a shotgun worth collecting just keep it for looking. If you want to have it to shoot and it has the old style barrels I think a gunsmith can line the barrels with the next size smaller gauge so if it is a 16 you could shoot 20 or if 20 you could set it up for 28. Someone else sure knows more and can give you more detailed advice.

Lignose and later bought out Bergman and became Lignose-Bergman was a german co., Suhl was location that built a variety of guns, pistols for the most part, most i have seen were from the 1920's-30's and handguns, not sure if have even seen a shotgun they made... as a general rule german guns are usually quality pieces, well built-not always fancy, but very functional, would have to see it to really know... good luck in your search...
