Opinions on a babbling dogs wanted

I really dislike this type i feel like they can really dismantle a cast and be very aggravating to get that first strike espeacially when it the judges dog. What is the opinion of dealing with this problem.

tough break

Hard to prove if you are being dumped in coon or in a small piece of land. Perhaps they should change the 8 minute rule to 2 minutes if they are struck in before the first minute is up.

Is there something in the rulebook that says you must prove anything?

i tried a while back to get the judges dog scratched by ukc rules it was OBVIOUS it was a babbling IDIOT lol it didnt work out for me.
it seems like i draw at least one or two dogs that strike of the lead every ukc cast.

Mike thats the problem i have is why have a rule that is so hard to enforce.I would say babbling dogs are a problem and that they ought to be watched and minused when they babble.Because most of them are a bunch of me too dogs that will just fall treed behind the real dog that is being a coondog and he stealing at least 25 points

if you are lucky enough to be the guide, cut them in the middle of large pasture if you can.

i agree, babbling dogs are one of the main reasons i don't comp. hunt much.

I have an old male dog that absolutly does not babble. He is a quick strike dog but honest as the day is long. Took him to the semi's a few years ago and on sat night he struck right off the lead. The judge said I'm going to have to minus you. We discussed it and as we were talking the dog was trailing away, then dog two opens and I say there is a track evident as the handler strikes his dog and the judge said I'm minusing you and giving him first strike. What a load of crap!!!!!!!! Dog treed within two minutes and I had to restrike him and then tree him. I says tree that babbler and we go in to find a big fat opposum. Ha, send us home judge the babbler treed his hot opposum. Maybe paybacks are a b@#$h, sorry the other guys got hammerd also but I would say it was going to be a long night. Babbleing dogs suck as far as I am conserned, and it is really bad when you can't do anything about it. What I like is when they say I won't strike him on it and then when it comes down to it strike old so and so.

I have never understood how this changes anything. They are just gonna say that a coon is somewhere close. A big part of the reason your not gonna see a rule on babbling make a big difference is because there are a whole bunch of folks hunting them, and justifying the dogs babbling as being a great track dog. They will argue to the end of time that the dog isnt babbling, but if you pleasure hunt with them enough, you will find that they know the dog isnt running anything when it opens. Its just hard to beat 100 strike all night long.

a lot of breeders are now purposely breeding for that babbling 1st strike dog. Thats the sad part.

If you think you have a babbler drop in a hay field away from timber, corn etc. This will help to see what you are hunting with in my opinion.

I too can't stand a babbler. Ruins it for me.

Jim thats just my opinion. I have also seen some hounds with alot of nose and one would think babble, but it turned out just to be a hound with alot of nose. I don't mind a hound that has a cold nose if thats what you want to call it. But he or she better be able to move that cold track and not sit and stand on there head!

Babbling fools that bark off the lead 100% of the time is what I was talking about. Hate them!

I don't like a dog that babbles. But I can also say that I haven't drawn one out in every hunt either just a handful. And it is usually the same dog or dogs. Sometimes if your lucky and ask is your dog babbling they will admit it then you can scratch them without any issues. Have seen that happen.

Jim

you will not find a babbler at my house, and I have not drawn one every time, but more often then not.

I will not own a dog that does that, if I can not break them from that habit, Remington can.

Of course you don't, nobody does. Because we all shoot our babblers or break'um......LMAO.

If I can ever get one in my kennel, I will pat him on the head, strike him for 100 and laugh all the way to the bank.

Im with JiM.

Almost every dog will babble, If you believe your dog is scenting coon every time it opens in the timber, you probably still put your teeth under your pillow.

I can say this with the utmost conviction and sincerity, my dog does not babble. On the hunts i was on i NEVER got first strike. Not once. Why is it so hard for you to believe that there are dogs out there with brains enough to know it's stupid to run behind another dog babbling like an idiot? My dog is not loud, she doesn't tree hard, she doesn't chop on tree, she bawls, and she will not stay at the tree with a facebarking dog. But when i say she's SMART, I mean it. She's the most accurate dog I have ever seen in my life, by far, and she does not babble. There is a difference between a dog that's just only good for competition hunting and a dog that is a smart coondog.
