Groundhogs ??

DOES ANYONE HAVE SUGGESTIONS FOR WHAT BAIT WOULD WORK TO LIVE TRAP GROUNDHOGS ??

SOME ARE DIGGING IN MY DADS SHED,AND I WANT TO HELP HIM REMOVE THEM .

I WAS THINKING OF TRYING CUT UP APPLES,CAN'T REALLY COME UP WITH OTHER IDEAS.

ANY IDEAS OR THOUGHTS WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

i have no idea....

i always trap mine from long range......... (Remington .243)

although when i was a kid, we used leg traps... slid trap down the hole and put some branches over the hole, when he came up to clean out the hole he got his leg in it (back then there was no such thing as live traps round here).

Just got a hot tip , use oil of spearmint or peppermint on any fruit ... they can't resist mint.

We live trap alot of hogs here with livetraps using cauliflower and apples with a bait called chuckster which smells like a fruit and melon mixture, I'd try a strong smelling fruit jelly mixture on the cauliflower and see what happens. A few drops of the melon based liquid lure helps attrack them to the trap from the hole. Of course when I place 8 livetraps on a jobsite I like to have 5-6 hogs trapped there within the first day and hopefully be outa there in two days. Good luck.

I'll be experimenting with that mint here within the next couple of days DD, and I'll reply back.

set my trap this morning with a cut up apple since thats all i had for now.

Thanks for all the good ideas, i'll see what works from all your good ideas as i gather more bait.

might try that leg trap method in a few days if i don't get him in my box trap.

I had better not let my niece find out if i do, she is scared that
her kitty's might get caught in the trap. I explained to her that her kittycats will not go near that groundhogs hole, but so far she's not a believer. she said the box trap was ok she has helped me trap coons with it, and knows they don't get hurt.
thats the mind of a 7 year old at work !!

Get yourself a good Mt Cur. I have seen good ones that will lay outside a groundhog's hole until the hogs get far enough from his hole and then nail him. A groundhog can put up a better fight than a coon.

I used to run a service station and people borrowed my exhaust hoses (the kind that piped the exhaust out the door) every summer. They would let their vehicle run for a half hour with the exhaust going in the hole, they all said that did the trick, but I never tried it

GROUND HOGS/WOODCHUCKS

Plant some green beans in the trap, as soon as they start growing the groundhogs will come and eat them-they do it every year in my garden. LOL.LOL.LOL.
