what would be the best Date to hold the UKC World hunt?

Today i made a post on the tree'n Blue Crew Thread, since then i have gotten about 12 PM's with others voicing their opinion.

My question would be when do you think would be the best time to hold the World Hunt to find out the real World Champion Coon Hound and not the World Champion Tree Hound!!!!

You can't tell about a dog with the leaves on. I say do it with the leaves off. Then stop the circle points alltogether. 2 good first steps in ensuring a coondog wins and not just another treedog.

Late March in the midwest would be ideal.

Don't matter to me , I'm finding coons right now. If he's there , you'll find him. And plus beats circle every time.
If you guys ain't finding coons , you'd be better off worrying about what's on the end of your lead , rather than worrying about what others have on the end of theirs.

Fellas, go back and look up the play by play for last years World Hunt final four. They made alot of trees, 5 or 6 I believe and I don't recall that they had a single slick or circle. They found a coon in every tree that was shined. You still wanna tell me you can't tell anything about a dog with the leaves on? My reply would be too many can't tell anything about a coondog period.

i like the idea of no leaves bc a lot of years there is a lot of circle points and without the leaves there would probably be a lot of minus and thats when a true coon dog will shine like a diamond when it gets split with the coon and the other dogs pull up short

Let them make their circle trees. All you have to do is tree a coon to beat them. As long as they are making trees they aren't backing yours so there is no pressure on you causing you to make a bad call.

come on down here & lets turn out...... w/ 10 minute shine time, u won't find a 1/3 of the coon u r finding up there...... simple fact: where I hunt it is so thick in places u cant' see the base of the tree with leaves on, let lone shine the top..... sometimes u find 'em in 10 and sometimes u just won't find 'em at all... ..... if u want to prove your dogs worth down here, u better wait til the leaves r off.....

I don't worry about whats on the end of my lead, I know my dogs & i know they aint tree happy nuts......

I believe they made one circle at the end of the hunt, could be wrong though.

I dont care when/where you hold the hunt. The same dogs that win with the leaves on are going to be the same that win without.

Well , of course it is. It's that way everywhere. ( except where I hunt )

You don't have to prove anything to me , I'm not the one complaining.
If everybody is so sure about their dogs , why ain't they taking them to the world and showing them how it's done? Heck , if they're finding coons , nobody should have no problem.

Besides that , if you can' shine all those trees , how can you know you don't have " tree happy nuts " ?
Or better yet , how do you know that those in the World Hunt are?

I would love to see the world hunt in November. Up north the leaves would be off and they would be getting thinner down south.

I hunt swamps and pine plantations, I know what thick is. I've hunted in the mid west in a lot of places. I've had guides in the midwest back up and say "we need to find another way, this is to thick" in spots that are thinner than my "clean" spots. I'm not saying it's all clear up there but shineing trees are much eaiser up there than down here.

AKC holds it's World Hunt in S.C. in Feb. Same basic result as all the other World Hunts no matter where or when they are held.

November

Leaves are off, no guessing, less minus & circle points. Coon are moving good then too. This is the time that REAL coondogs shine.

yeah you got a point. Folks that know good and well there dog has slick treed are gonna find a loophole somewhere. There aren't many big hardwoods at all down here where i live that don't have a hole of some sort in it somewhere. Then, theres your circle again. Circle points are the main problem. In order of importance here's whats wrong with the competition hunts.......

1. mean dogs and the sorry people who hunt and breed them
2. circle pionts
3. feeder buckets.

Doesn't matter.
If you had it with the leaves off , folks would complain that " They're just hot-nosed , pop-up dogs."
Could it be you just saw a REAL lay-up dog? LOL
Or , " They ran trash and fell off on a coon."
Could it be you just saw a REAL track dog? LOL
Or ," That dog must be mean , mine wouldn't tree with him. " Couldn't be your dog couldn't smell it. LOL

They'd still have all kinds of excuses why they didn't win.

MID MARCH

LEAVES WOULD BE OFF AND IT WOULDNT BE TO COLD PLUS NOVEMBER IN SOME PLACES COULD BE BAD WEATHER. IN MARCH YOU COULD SEE THE TREE AND THEY WOULDNT BE THAT THE ONLY REASON THEY WIN STORY AGAIN IS BECAUSE THE LEAVES ARE ON!

Two World Hunts

I think they should hold two world hunts! One with the leaves on and one with the leaves off.

Or they could spread out the zones and the finals make the finals in Late October. This would give those poor coonhunters like my self a chance to save up more money for the trip to the finals. It would also give the leaves time to fall off.

It is good that they move it around from place to place every year!

The biggest problem I see in the hunts are babbling, me-too, rough, tree idiots. The other is Honesty, integrity, morals and values of the hunters and handlers in the hunts.

Nothing worse than watching a dog get cut off the lead barking heading one direction the handler waits a minute or until one other dog barks then they strike them. Then when a hound trees in the other opposite direction they were running, they turn around and break the brush getting to the one that is treed and then try and eat them up off the woods when they get there.

Then the handler waits until the last five hoping your hound leaves. Then on the way to the tree they run (falling down) and get there about 20 to 30 yards ahead of the rest of the cast and handle there hound(they run up and snatch the score card real fast). Then they tell the rest of the cast to handles theres when they arrive.

I think everyone knows the kind of hound I am talking about.
