personally, i teach my dogs to come before i start hunting them hard, i also use dog treats, my dogs like bread, and i give them a little piece when the do something right, weather its coming to me, sitting when asked, treeing their first couple of coon, anything that i like, until they learn that im pleased when they do certain things, i have a 6 yr old redbone that will come when you call her, sit, lay down, bow, and beg when asked, i can call her off a tree, unless she can see a coon and then its a pain in my rear to get her off but yeah, she is also kinda lazy, cuz she weighs about 90 lbs but is starting to lose some weight but she is still a great "keep the coons/cats off the porch" dog
i also have a 4 yr old rottweiler that comes and sits, he's a good home protector (from bears anyways, he likes people to much to be mean to them) good bear dog though
i also have a hyper puppy (18 months old), she likes to play fetch, so i found some old tennis balls and play fetch, she isnt so good at bringing the ball back, but i keep her on a leash, mainly cuz she likes the chickens (as lunch) and is getting better, she also plays w/ my rott
