Lime...Bleach and Blasto(blastomycosis)

Blastomycosis is derived/comes from the fungus blastomycete
which is pathogenic(capable of producing disease). Now to the
point....I would think that bleach and or lime would kill this
disease/fungus....once dogs become exposed to this the majority of the time it results in a horrible death. Any suggestions or experiences with blasto? I've never had a dog die from this
but I had a friend Allen Moses who lost a great hound to this...
Allen if you read this please post your account of 'Bandits' death.
Thanks.

from what i understand hunting dogs around swampy stagnet waters is the more likely place for a dog to pickup blasto.. beavers are known to spread the spores to different areas..

don't know about that!! but they carrie the spores.. i hunted with a guy from northern wi that had a dog get blasto.. the dog survived but had to be on medication for 6mo. or a yr.. once the spores are in there lungs they can come down with it over and over again.. up around merrill wi they had alot of cases of it a couple yrs ago. cats and dogs both, even a teenage girl died from it.. bad stuff. i won't even hunt up that way anymore..

I had A gooden die from blasto a few years back. its very treatable if caught in the early stages. I dont know about killing it with bleach because you dont know where its at. its spores that a dog get from sniffing the ground and it gets in their lungs. Good thing is that its NOT contagious from dog to human or dog to dog.

Treatable with Spornox but its costly................

Hey Chris

Looks like this stuff occurs pretty much everywhere....I was just suggesting if a person put the lime and bleach out around a dogs
living area that it would cut his chances of getting the disease.

Just had a dog die of blasto that lived on lime. The university told me that they get it from tree bark and dirt while hunting. Not as likely to get it from kennel??
