Prayer At The Hunts

Received a letter from an individual that was late getting to his satellite from the Winter Classic. One of his suggestions to allow hunters more time to reach their satellite is to do away with the pre-hunt prayer. His logic was that it wasn't allowed in schools and he shouldn't have to wait through it at the hunts.

Mine and Tank's thoughts are that the hunts are not publicly administrated through tax payer dollars and that the vast majority of our customers appreciate a short pre-hunt prayer.

Correct?????

I feel everybody needs a little prayer to make it through the day and the hunts as well. If this gentleman does not like the prayer just kindly ask him to step outside. Nothing againest him just I don't see no need to change a thing.

Maybe he should have asked GOD to help him get there on time, maybe it would have happened or maybe not. It seems that he may want to blame GOD for not getting there on time instead of blaming himself.
I have been impressed in my short amount of time attending hunts at the amount of Coonhunters who openly speak of Christ and are Christians, It is good to be a part of organizations who openly recognizes its belief in Christ and doesn't need to be politically correct.
I say don't let a small miniority change this, let the miniority accept that it is the majorities belief and pray that they will see the light of God's love.

My wife teaches kindergarten and has a difficult struggle with the seperation of church and state issues. However she prays before going to lunch, those who wish to participate do, those who do not remain silent for a moment while the prayer is taking place. She will continue to do this until she is forced to stop.

Was it a 10 minute prayer or something? I'm surprised someone hasn't brought it up before, with the obvious moral decay of the country these days. If a prayer made you late, you were late already, IMHO.

Let's let the majority of the cast

rule on this one.I say we have taken so much away from God already that we should let the prayers ring loud and clear at any hunt that wants to say them.

Sounds like we should send some prayers up for this gentleman! To GOD I give all praise and thanks without him I could do nothing.

One other note.

All the hunts I've been to that say prayers,do so after the hunt deadline and just before draw out so it doesn't matter if we did away with the prayers this guy would have still been late.It is taking away from the hunting time instead of the entering time and I just bet that most folks will be glad to give up a few minutes of their hunting time for a prayer.

It does me good to see that nobody has disagreed so far. I know that it has done much to impress on-lookers and new-comers that prayer is said at big events.

I agree with everyone, let the prayer stand. I get asked quite often to say the prayer before the hunts because most people know me as pastor mike, pretty obvious, huh.lol Well, as a pastor, when I pray before the hunt, my prayer is probably only one minute. How many guys hold up their cast for 10 or 15 minutes because they don't have their boots on yet or they haven't put their tracking collars on the dog yet or they need to stop and get gas because they were running late to start with and just decided to wait to get the gas while on the way to the hunting grounds? Its all a matter of perception for this fellow that doesn't want the prayer, well, he doesn't have to pray, but he can wait for one minute until the rest of us have. I would never want to go to the woods by myself or with a cast without praying because I want everyone to be safe. nuff said. thanks.

Prayer in schools

Hey Todd,

being a youth pastor, the prayer in school thing is something I definitely know about. This gentleman's argument is not valid because prayer IS ALLOWED in school, the only catch is it must be student led. If a student wants to pray he can, period! An adult or faculty member cannot begin it, thats all. Just thought I would shed a little light on that subject. thanks again,

pastor mike

Keep the prayer. As a school teacher and a Christian this is one of the things I struggle with daily... I'd think a brief prayer for the safety and sportsmanship of those about to go out into the night to hunt is very appropriate.

Prayer at hunts

Keep it!!!!

Most of the small clubs around here don't have a prayer prior to the hunt, I'm not sure why other than probably it is just forgotten. (Imagine that)

However, something that I feel should be done is a prayer prior to every single hunt. Bringing God to the forefront of every hunt might just make a person think a little bit about the desire to "stretch" the rules in their favor or out right disregard for the rules we hunt by.

Someone previously posted in this thread that even though their might not be a prayer prior to the hunt, a lot of us will give a prayer prior to turning the dogs loose. Heck, I was thinking maybe I was the only one who did that. However, I never pray that my dog will win!!! My prayer will entail that we have a good hunt, that the best dog win, and that my dog looks and hunts well, If I win so be it, but if not, let it be known that the best dog won and that the cast had an honest hunt.

This man must have more problems than just not making it to the hunt on time.I've never heard a prayer last longer than 30-45 sec, mabe the prayer is what made him late, mabe GOD was protecting him from somthing that would have happend to him on the hunt.

This topic reminded me of an email

I received. So here it is, hope you enjoy and/or agree. After I received there were several instances were this rang VERY true.

****

Next time your morning seems to be going wrong and the children are slow getting dressed and you can't seem to find the car keys and you hit every traffic light, don't get mad or frustrated; praise God instead because God is at work watching over you.

After Sept. 11th, I happened to call a man on business whom I didn't know and haven't nor will probably ever talk to
again. But on this particular day, he felt like talking. He was the head of security for a company that had invited the remaining members of another company who had been decimated by the attack on the Twin Towers to share their
office space.

With his voice full of awe he told me stories of why these people were alive and their counterparts were dead. In the end, all the stories were just about the little things that happen to us. You might know, the head of the company got in late that day because his son started kindergarten.

Another fellow was alive because it was his turn to bring donuts. There were other stories that I hope and pray will someday be gathered and put in a book.

The one that struck me was the man who put on a new pair of shoes that morning, took the various means to get to work but before he got there, he developed a blister on his foot. He stopped at a drugstore to buy a Band-Aid. That is why he is alive.

Now when I am stuck in traffic, miss an elevator, turn back to answer a ringing telephone...all the little things that annoy me...I think to myself, this is exactly where God wants me to be at this very moment.

May God continue to bless you with all those annoying things. Pass this on to someone else, if you'd like. There is NO LUCK attached. If you delete this, it's okay: God's Love Is Not Dependant On E-Mail.

WHAT!!!!

You have got to be kidding.. This is just the type of ignorant person that you do not want on your cast.. Good luck Todd with putting up with these type of people that have too much time on their hands to worry about real stuff, like kids, dogs, and fun... "God Bless You"
