I would say it's a huge male bobcat. I would think Lynx would be wider with all the hair they have on their foot. I'm sure you have the occaisonal cougar up that way, so maybe a small one? It'll be interesting what the guys out west that hunt cougar say about it.

I know a guy who used to hunt bobcat in Maine years ago when there was a bounty on them. He's got a ton of slides of cats that were over 50 pounds. I remember they had enormous feet from what you could see in the photos. He's about 6 feet tall, and those cats when he was holding them the back feet would be up at his forehead and the front paws would only be a few inches off the ground. I've only seen a few bobcats and they were alot smaller than those in his slides.

No question in my mind that is a lynx track. The toes and heal pad are there but not real definded. This comes from the thick hair on the bottom of a lynx foot.

thank you for posting i hunt bobcats here and we have gotten some big ones but the biggest over forty lbs did not leave a track like this. snow conditions were not the greatest even so the size of the toes is what gets me I'm hoping the guys that see more mountain lion and lynx tracks than we do will give there opinions thank again

lynx

Always hard to tell from a photo. The outside of the track compared to the paw prints make me think lynx.

Hellcat is right. It is hard to tell from a photo. It looks like the snow is crunchy, so you don't get a good impression. It would be nice to know the spacing of the tracks. I'm not a pro at lynx but my guess would be, Mountain Lion just because of the area around the track. If you look at the top of the track there are 2 little lines where the fur might have touched the snow. The rear part of the print, (the pad) looks to small to be a mountain lions track but even a 115lbs M.L. can make a track that small. It's probably a dog track. lol

Have a good one!

Larry I thought this picture of a lion track in sugary snow will help you decide if your cat track is a lion or a lynx.
