Wisconsin Hunting Pics

I took Stylish Super Sally (Stylish Rebel X Lady Jade) my young walker and my Mountain Cur Tommycale's Lilo out for a run tonight. It was a balmy 18 degrees when I cut Sally Loose at the first spot. I decided to hunt these to alone for a while so Sally can build up some confidence. She's just getting started.

Sally went hunting up one side of the valley, crossed the bottom and worked her way back towards me. She struck a track about a hundred yards away from me on the hill side and pushed it up over the hill. It must have been a cold one, she was just pecking away at it. She moved the track about 300 yards and then bang she laid into a tree like she was looking at the coon! I hustled up the hill through the snow to find her treeing her heart out on a big hollow den tree. I snapped a few pics and headed back to the truck.

I loaded up and drove to another spot. I was a little aprehensive dropping in this section 'cause it was a big one and the snow was deep. I got Lilo out of the box and cut her in down over the hill, hoping she wouldn't get to deep. Lilo is real tight on track. She might let out a yelp when she gets something started but for the most part you won't here from her till she is on the tree. Lilo opened up about 200 yards away with an excited yelp and then she tightened back up. I didn'y hear anything for about two or three minutes when Lilo layed into a tree. She was really clipping them off. She was probably 400 yards away on the opposite hillside. I almost started in after her when I stopped and listened again thinking she might be quite a bit closer to the next road down. I jumped in the truck and drove around to the next lane where I was pleasantly suprised to find her treed about 75 yards off the road. She had the meat on this one and was proud of it!

Here's a few pics.

Sally on the wood!

Lilo and the Meat!

I would guess her around 50 lbs. She does have a feminine build, not real blocky but sleak and racey built. Right now I would say she is squall on track. She is still trying to find her voice on track it changes a bit. On tree she has a roar broke up by a chop. Very LOUD! She is tight on track. She probably barked 15 times on the track last night. Just enough to know where she is. During early kill season, before she started to tree, she was a bit looser on track. I guess if she is putting up coon in 6-20 degree weather I can't complain. She is getting independant. She hasn't quit a track, that she has started, for 5 times out. She has ended up under the coon or an obvious den tree every time. I've just been taking her out and making one tree and calling it a night. Pulling her off the tree wanting more. I pet her up real good on the ones I can see the meat. She doesn't get praised on the den trees but I don't discourage her either. I gotta give her the benefit of the doubt. I have yet to knock a coon out to her. I really don't think she needs it. She knows coon climb trees and that if she stays there I will come to her. She has seen coon shot out that she didn't tree but she was tied back 20-30 yards from those trees and it made her madder then hell. She caught one on the ground once, I think that is the only one she got to wool up. I think she would rather bay it up than stick her nose in and get it bit anyways.

Dan

It was after the rain. This hunt was last night. In the bottoms it was miserable 18"-20" with a crust you would break through on every step. On the South facing hillsides it wasn't too bad. The coon are able to scoot across the top of the crust. Seen quite a few tracks last night. The dogs were breaking through for the most part but could scoot across the top here and there. The dogs didn't get chewed up by the icey crust last night but it sure kicked my butt till I could get out of the deep stuff

Stylish Super Sally

Here's a pic of Sally from last Wednesday night. She struck this track and worked it for about 5 minutes before she fell treed. She did a nice job on it. Probably took us 10 minutes to get to her and she was locked down treeing like a champ . It was a den tree.

Saturday morning squirrel hunt

Last Saturday Tim Lundell and I took my Mountain Cur Lilo and his Treeing Cur Max out for a hunt. It was action packed these two hunt real nice together. Although they will give you a work out when they get split treed. They both are stubborn about packing into one another.

Here's a few pics

Here's a few pics of tonights coon hunt. I've got Sally laid up right now she is in heat. We had a great time. We ended up looking at 4 coon tonight. These first 3 are of the Stanton Boy's dog Moe. Moe smoked the track on this one and just flat got treed. We ended up driving around to him on this one. He did a real nice job on it. Oh and he had the meat!

Monday night coon hunt

On one of the drops tonight we cut the dogs loose under a fence. My Cur dog Lilo spun around went across the road behind us and opend on the ground in an open field. She made about a 100 yard circle out in the field and slammed this tree! It was hollow towards the bottom of the tree and had a coon in it. She must have winded that one out on the field before we even cut them loose! While she was on this one Moe and Tim Lundells little walker got treed at the bottom of the hill about 100 yards from Lilo and had a coon on that one too!

The brindle dog is a Mountain Cur. She goes back to Harold Smith' s Twin Pines Banjo on the Sires side and a Sauers Rex bred female on the Dams side.

Thanks for lookng, Dan

She's in heat right now. Going to have to lay her up for a few weeks . I was playing with her out in the kennel this morning and she is just goofy. I teased her with a rawhide for a bit and she grabbed it and went into her big doghouse. I made the mistake of sticking my head in front of the doghouse door right when she decided to barrel out of there and she just about knocked me out! She did bring me her rawhide as a piece offering I guess as I layed ther in her kennel lol.

Tonight on the first drop we ended up in a hole. On the second drop we were about 100 yards from where we were going to stop and cut the dogs loose when my Cur dog, Lilo, acted like she struck one from the box! We stopped and cut the dogs loose. Lilo took off up the road off into the woods right where she opened in the box and struck a track. She ran it wide open about 200 yards up the hill across the road and then pulled up treed. Moe got in at the end of it. We drove the truck up there to find them treed with a coon 'bout 50 yards off the road.

On the third drop Moe struck in deep and got out of hearing on us. Lilo hit a track running the other direction and pulled up treed. We went to Lilo and she had a den. We then drove around to the other side where we could hear a bit better and Moe was locked down on a tree. We got to him a while later and he had a coon all by himself on that one.
