Cut-heal works great. You can get it at most farm supply places.

Blue Lotion by Farnam. It helps toughen and heals, but it does stain.

I always use Super Glue. It works great. It will burn at first, but after it sets up they will act like nothing ever happend. I use it once before a big show and you never know he had a big hunk out of his pad. Try it.

I used bag balm on Lucys foot when her's tore. I didnt have any boots to put on her, so used vet wrap..lol. She had a purple foot when she would leave it on. I put it on 3 X a day and healed in about 3 days. Hope this helps.

COPPERTOX WORKS GREAT TOO!

IT HELPS HEALS AND TOUGHENS AT THE SAME TIME.

BUT DONT GET IT ON YOUR HANDS OR FINGERS, YOU'LL TASTE IT FOR DAYS! BLECK!

pads

I had a problem with my Border Collie ( I know he's not a coondog...but he can't help that) running the first layer of skin off his pads. I wrapped them, didn't put anything on them (kept them dry) and the were completely healed in three days. New pretty pink skin was growing anf he wasn't tender. For future try putting some wheat germ oil on your dog's food (tablespoon) it helps soften their pads and keeps them from cracking which can cause the cuts and splitting. The pads stay soft but strong. Just a thought.

Here were we hunt in the ice and rocks alot we use Koppertox also.Another thing we do is spread rock salt in their kennel or if their tied out, around their house. The salt really toughens the feet and as an added bonus if their tied out helps with worm probs in the soil.

I clean the cut out good, then use ordinary neosporin from the medicine cabinet. I then use pine tar from the local hard-ware store to pack around the wound, be sure to close the pads together, it makes a nice hard bandage they wont lick. Check them daily when you feed them, and shortly you'll be hunting.
