I know it has nothing to do with dogs. I got my first climbing stand today tried it a few times today, but i have a few ? what size of tree do i want when i get to the hight i want to hunt do i kind of kick it in or let my weight do the work to hold it to the tree and how tight do i want my chain on it when i start up the tree. sorry so many ? but have always used a lock on stand

I like about the biggest tree the stand will fit on. It makes for a more stable sit, and break up your outline more.

Your weight alone should hold the stand in place. I doubt there is a stand on the market today that will slide once you get it properly set up when you reach your climbing height.

Make sure the stand is alittle tilted toward the tree when you start. The tree will get smaller as you go up it will level itself out. If you start out level it will be tilting you away from the tree when you get up there.

I like to give mine a big tilt towards the tree starting out cause I normally try to get atleast 20 feet so then it is about level. I can get mine on a 8 inch tree but like stated above the bigger the tree the sturdier it becomes. I hope you got a light one because they sure get heavy packing in and out but the convence is wonderful. Last night I went in found a spot came back this mourning climbed the tree and had a ten and a seven point come by. I like being mobile if I see something moving by at 100 yards then the next day I can adjust quickly. I use my climber exclusivly I probably have 10 stands laying out in the shop yet to be hung this year. Plus so much more comforatable.

btw always wear a harness!
good luck

I'll throw my $.02 in. Always -- ALWAYS carry a piece of rope or string to tie the bottom piece off to the top piece. There aren't many feelings worse than shoving your feet in the straps to climb down and feeling your foot piece slip off and slide down the tree....

AMEN to that. The one I currently have is one of the most rock solid stands I have used yet. The bast is attached to the hand climber at all times and when you get where you are going you can cinch the two together and that thing doesn't move an inch. There is no wobble whatsoever.

I have been using a Summitt Viper stand for about 4 yrs now. By far the best stand I have ever owned. No slips, quiet, and easy to climb. Also very comfortable. Like above the bigger the tree the better it helps hide you some.
