Is this too close a breeding?

Do you think this would be too close? I was considering making this cross in a few months but I'm worried it may be too close. Harry and Peg both have a few crosses of Bozo. That's about all they have in common ancestors in their 4 generation pedigree.

............Stylish Hayes
........SYLISH HARRY
............Stylish Anna
....sire(could be any of three from cross)
............Pulpwoods Image
........BROWNS LITTLE PEG
............Brown's Peggy

pups

............Stylsih Hayes
........STYLISH HARRY
............Stylish Anna
....dam Brown's Taylor
............Nocturnal Skipper
........Browns Haley
............BROWNS LITTLE PEG

The Harry x Peg and Harry x Haley crosses were two of my favorite. All of these dogs are grand nite champions except the mother and she just needs one more win to be grand.

In my opinion... Id do it and not think twice about it. That looks like it would be a NICE cross.

Do it !!

Go for it Travis !!

What would be really interesting would be to then take one from this cross and breed back to something from the Rat x Peg cross.

With the way Peg has reproduced I don't think you could get too much of her.

Good Luck . and keep us Peg fans posted

Providing the sire and dame meet your requirements for what you believe a coon dog should be than go for it.

I do have one suggestion though. Take more time to pick one stud that suites you best. Siblings often don't reproduce as similiar as many of us woud like them too. Make a cross based on the individuals first. The pedigree should be at best a minimal consideration.

Good luck.

I'm with Larry on this one.

I think that on paper, this cross is not too close. However, I would encourage you to closely evaluate the three sibling brothers and make a determination which one best suits your needs.

What are Peg's sire and dams name?

Dan and Queen don't say much... I'd plug this into my COI program, but it wont do much good if I only have three generations.

Ricky and Donnie I'll let you know before I advertise if I make the cross.

Jeff thanks for the nice comments about Little Peg.

Larry I agree siblings often produce different types of pups.

Bolt Action it looks very close to me also.

Oak Ridge little Pegs sire and dam are Gr. Nt. Ch. Pulpwood's Image and Gr. Nt.Ch. Brown's Peggy. I corrected the pedigree. Dan and queen are another generation back. They are the sire and dam to Peggy not Little Peg.

Thanks to all others who replied.

Travis,

I go by two numbers to help direct me. One is the relationship coefficient. The father and mother contributes 50% and the grandparents 25% and the greatgrand parents 12.5% and so on. Stylish Harry contributes 25% twice for a total of 50%. Since the father or mother can contribute at most 50% each, I don't feel one dog's contribution of 50% is out of line.

The other number is the CIO which has been scientically proven over many breeds that a CIO of 0.20 is usually pretty safe. That is unless you know of a genetic defect in the last 3 or 4 generations than that maybe a consideration.

Based on similiar crosses in the past, I would guess the pups CIO would be right around 0.15-0.17. (I didn't calculate that number.)

Now, all of the above takes a back seat to your goals and selecting mates with specific traits to reach your goals. Line breeding is just a tool. It can be used correctly or just as well incorrectly. It is the same as outcrossing. In my opinion outcrossing and line breeding are both more often used incorrectly than correctly. Both tools are often over looked for the all mighty pedigree. That type of breeding hurts our dogs more than well thought out crosses.

Donnie,

I'm glad she turned out for you. I would have liked to have got her. Due to people wanting to buy some pups I had to make a deal right then. I'm always glad to see some Peg blood stay at a good trainers house anyways. Good dog trainers are hard to find.

It just depends, are you really interested in improving your dogs, or just seeing your name on DOG PAPERS. Believe it or not, it happens all the time. It's called KENNEL BLINDNESS.

How come everyone Misses CONFORMATION !!
Papers are Papers

How about Breed Standards

How are the Feet ??
Height ??
Head ??
Back ??
Hips ??

YOU MUST HAVE THE CONFORMATION TO CARRY THE ABILITIES

I keep seeing these World Camps and to be honest I would'nt Breed to a single one of them !!

Their Small and have Sh-- Conformation

Breed Standards are what makes the Breed, you have to look at the whole picture Ability/Conformation then Marry them together..

I know Looks Don't Tree Coons but with the way the Walkers are going They'l have to change the Breed Standards..
