It is pricey, but it works great. The Garmin GPSMAP60CX. It has a ton of features 99% of which I will never use. I love it because once it locks on the sattelites the first time of the night, it literally takes seconds to lock any other time you use it that night. It will also work in heavy cover and steep hills.

if you dont need all the 99% of features briar talked about go with a garmin etrex c (the color version.) it has just about everything the 60 does without the price. i have had mine for about a year now and love it. i have all my deer stands marked, deer paths, best places to drop hounds etc. and when that fog rolls in it sure helps getting me back to my truck. go color though for night time use. makes it so much more handier.

I had an Etrex that I smashed with a hammer..thing took forever to lockup. Bought a Garmin Rino and really like it! The Rino has a big ole antenna, so I think thats what helps it lock up so fast.

I had mine a year. I ususally found my way out wandering around before it would lock up. All it would say is "need a clear veiw of the sky". Who hunts in the summer with a clear view of the sky??

When I moved and took it with me, that GPS was done. It never could find any sattelites in the new location. NONE. IT would ask me if I was indoors.
