Bayer tree/shrub? cow tags?

ive heard of people using bayer tree and shrub insecticide on hounds for fleas, and reciently i found someone that uses a product called purple python cow tags for fleas and ticks. would like more info on both. how much do you use of bayer? how well does it work for ticks? how do cow tags work? and where do i find them? how long do each work? i saw where 15ml is the dosage for about a 70lb hound- how do you figure poundage per mL?

There is a post on here somewhere about the bayer, with about a hundred replies. It sounds like the majority likes it. I put in on 6 of my hounds last week to see how it works before i apply it to all of them. I am not seeing any fleas on those dogs. I plan on giving the other dogs a dose tonite. According to most of the replies, it doesnt really work on ticks. FLEAS is my only problem and seems to be doing the trick. RONNIE HILL

use rubber gloves when applying it as you can absorb it through your shin i apply it on the back of the neck so they can't lick it off before they absorb it into the skin,
it works real well and also kills mosquitoes once they bite the dog.

those cattle tags attached to a collar will keep most flies away

Cow tags have permethrin in /on them. That product works well on fleas & ticks, but it doesn't seem to work good with those tags. JMO

I AGREE BAYER/YES--COWTAGS/NO

IF YOU HAVE A SIGNIFICANT PROBLEM WITH FLEAS, GO WITH THE BAYER PRODUCT. WE HAD FLEAS HERE THIS YEAR BAD AS I'VE EVER SEEN, THE BAYER TREE AND SHRUB WORKED GREAT. HAVE USED MANY DIFFERENT COW TAGS ATTACHTED TO THE COLLARS, NOT SO GOOD. I THINK THE TAGS HAVE TO BE ATTACHTED DIRECTLY TO THE ANIMAL TO WORK(COWS EAR FOR EXAMPLE). NOT FESIBLE FOR DOG USE. JMO.

the bayer lasts almost 3 months i put it on the neck where they cant lick it if they do lick it i never had one get sick from it but you want them to absorb through the skin for full effect i used to put it on there belly but found they lick it and less gets into there system and it doesn't last as long just push the hair foward and rub it into the skin .
the ear tags work for knats and mosquitoes and face flies i don't know about fleas or ticks as i cut them in strips and fasten them to the collar as i don't like to use more than one flea product at a time.
cut the eartag so you get the strips the with bof the collar and just wrap thin strips of duct tape around each end with the strip on the outside away from the skin

Do you dilute it before putting it on the dog, or just rub it on straight out of the bottle?

I have two nursing females, and don't want to do anything that will harm them or the pups.

I have tried several things to kill the fleas, but I think I've been fattening them up!!!!

Really bad this year.

thanks yall- 3months is a pretty good stretch, everyone ive talked to swears by bayer... havnt seen a flea in months. im gonna go get some and see if it effects the ticks any, thats where my problem is. ticks seem like theyre thriving this year, dont seen any fleas on my dogs but better safe than sorry. seems like if they get a head start on you you have a war on your hands to get rid of them. purple python cattle tags say they cover flies, misquitoes, gnats, and ticks... im not sure if they would keep fleas away or not, but like i said ticks are my problem. flys annoy the dogs some around the house as well but nothing some fly spray hasnt taken care of.

TICKS:-(

If you just have ticks, you might want to try the Preventic collars.
My daughter has 11 dogs she was using Front Line Plus on and they still had ticks. She put Preventic collars on all of them and you never see a tick, even when they've been in the woods. Just make sure you cut the extra part of the collar off. One of her pups ate about 2" of his collar and got very sick. The collars cost about $12 each and last all summer. That was the best tick investment ever made. Good luck getting rid of those suckers.

OK, if you put it on the back of their neck....you just pour it on? Undiluted?

Fleas are terrible here, haven't noticed many ticks on the dogs.

Simple remedy

Just worm all your dogs with ivermectin once a month. .1 ml per 10lbs. I have no flea or tick problems and the kennel is in the middle of a pine thicket, in the Heart of DIXIE.

Also, use the Bayer just like you use the advantage. It is diluted more so, use twice as much. It takes .7ml per 6lbs of advantage so do the math.

I'll second the preventic collars for ticks. there are a few off brands of them just look for the active ingriedent amitraz.

i worm my dogs every month with ivormec- just wormed em and still fleas and ticks. gave all dogs a little extra wormer to try to take care of the bugs and it didnt do any good. just worming isnt sufficient here.

Alright

Go to the vet or feed store and pick up a bottle permethrine concentrate. Mix it twice what the lable calls for and spray around your kennels about fifty foot circumference. Also, put the bayer down your dogs backs.
