Autumn Oaks Judges Seminar-bring a dog and participate

On Thursday afternoon at 4pm at Autumn Oaks there will be a judges seminar entitled 'Positive Judging and Giving Oral Reasons'. It will be held in the big conformation judging ring. The first part of the program will be a Power Point slide show, and the second part will be a session with live dogs for the judges (and prospective judges) to practice what they learned during the slide show.

We need dogs for this exercise, so if you will be on the grounds Thursday afternoon please bring a conformation dog and participate. It should be a fun experience and it will give you the chance to practice with your dog for the real thing the next day. We need enough dogs to make several different 'classes' for the judges to practice critiquing. It will all be kept very positive in nature.

If you have any questions feel free to email me at vincefan@centurytel.net. I hope lots of you will join us with dogs, it should be educational for everyone, judges and exhibitors alike.

Kathy ,I E- Mailed you about this before. You never replied. Why did they move the seminar to Thursday ? I as a Bench show Judge would love to attend but I am not coming out a day sooner just on account of the seminar. Most folks that are interested in the shows are there by Friday. Why can't it be moved back to Saturday or Friday? The attendance I bet will be higher.
If you don't want to move it why not have the seminar recorded on a CD for purchase by interested persons ?

I think the reason for moving it was based upon so much going on on Friday and Saturday.

It's hard to attend a seminar and get ready to show and hunt all at the same time.

Richard.I kind of assumed that was the reason. It seemed to work out before though.Would still like to see it moved back or like I asked a possible CD recording for purchase. After all this is for the betterment of judging and understanding what is correct.

I will agree!! I think a CD of this seminar would be a great benifit to those who can't make it.

If I get the breeders showcase thingy done in time, I'll bring WY or Loose over to let them pick at. Those poor mutts never see a bench except at a show, they need the practice.

I can guarantee it's worthwhile

I attended one of the mandatory juding seminars for multibreed judges and I can guarantee it's a worthwhile experience. Learn about correct movement, angulation, feet, proportion/overall balance, prosternum development. And learn how to look at the WHOLE dog instead of focusing on a minor imperfection. Also, judges will learn how to give POSITIVE critiques and to mention the GOOD points of the dogs. Personally, I'm constantly amazed at some of the bench show judges' remarks. A recent one that comes to mind, said to an exhibitor by the BSJ is,"Your dog has bad front hocks."
A CD covering the AO seminar would be wonderful for EVERYONE to utilize, especially if it can be presented at club meetings and it might help improve some of the judging.
