Honestly, I think you could probably find a good used one for the same price that it would cost you to build one...

Might not be the nicest box in the lot, but that is just my thoughts.

I made my uncle one a couple years ago. I used a square road sign for the bottom and went to a place that had alot of scrap diamond plate metal and bought alot of it. I got four peices that was the size I needed and tig welded it together and then I bent up the sides of the road sign up and just pop riveted the diamond plate to it. It looks good Ill go out to his house and take some pics of it. He likes it the only problem he had with it was it had no storage in it so I got creative and used an old dresser drawer and put it under it and made a carrage for the drawer under the box and cut the diamond plate to cover up the front of the drawer and pop riveted the diamond plate to the front of the drawer. He has hauled it all over the country and every where he goes somebody will ask him what kind of box is that. He'll say it's a one of a kind aint it.

Sup Jay,

I see you have an addition, Spanky?? How old? How is he breed? Man, I lost one the other week to the heat!! Turned his water over somehow!! I dont know if something came in the yard and got him worked up or what, I left home at 9am gave em all fresh water and sprayed them off, when I got home at 3:30pm he was stiff. He was two and was going to pushed this yr in the hunts. I guess Iam looking for one now!!

box

I built 1 myself last fall but I copied off another box.You can buy the doors from Koch supply for about $25. but youll still have about $100.in the box unless you have alot of scraps around.I used 1X1.5 wood strips for my framing and 1/4 plywood covered withflat valley tin and I sprayed it with spray-on bed liner with mixed results. If you want top storage Lowes had the hinges and lock for the top.Good Luck.

My husband built a two dog box for my jeep cherokee this spring out of some scrap metal and plywood. It slides in the hitch on the back, not in the vehicle. Had to buy the hinges and door locks but that was it. Covered it with a spray on grey paint that made it look aluminum, needs painting again now but didn't cost to much and didn't look half bad. Serves the purpose it's intended for, and it's nice that the doors automatically lock when closed. Just make sure you don't loose the key with the dogs in the box!

Ive made several, this one I use now, sold the Jeep but it slides in my Chevy. I use half inch to 1 inch square tubing and expanded metal, in the winter time I have some diamond plate I can bolt to it. Perfect for the warm weather we have. I've built plenty, never bought one, sold a few.
