just a question

Fellers,
I'm relatively new to this comp hunting, I've only been in 4 hunts, nothing special about my dogs bark, so it's hard to tell him from the others at times, but I have fun with it. I have to questions, one is my dog is 3 years old, now as far as comp hunting go's has he reached his peak? and number 2 is I hear alot of really nice dogs have a "patter" to their bark, Is this something bred into comp dogs, or is it something that most dogs develope? and about what age should a dog develope this pattern, what I mean by pattern is for instance chop on trail, loud bawwwllll when he gets to the tree, then sets to choppin on the tree.

Are you talking about a dogs "locate"? If so every dog is different. My female will give 3 hard chops that turns into a steady chop, my SS pup gives 2 long bawls, then starts a steady chop. My Rat dog has something inbetween a chop and bawl then starts a steady chop.

There are lots of older dogs that still comp hunt!!!!!!! Jessica
