Innotek RD-400

I am thinking of buying one of these units. Does anyone have one, are they good or bad? Are the collars that come whith them any good? Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

i like em alright....i have had two....they dont get the best signal thats on the market.....the collars are pretty nice and have a good battery life...you can change it yourself....pretty neat thing is the way you turn em on, is by swiping a magnet across the collar and you know when its on/off by an LED, it also lets you know when your battery is getting low by flashing red....you dont have to worry about losing magnets, the reciever has a magnet built in too.....you can program the collars yourself to different channels....the antenna is slick too, made something like window blinds....pull it out of the tube/case and there out....push it back in the case and there closed....i can usually get mine out, find the direction of dogs and back in the case by the time my buddies unfold their yagi's and are turning theirs on.....i have never had it not work because of cold weather.

i have noticed that they get more interference than the other trackers....they take a little longer to change channels than others..(no problem if its already set to the right collar)....they dont have a low range switch( attinuater) spelling?....just have adjustable tone and gain....the gain works the power level....on both that i have owned, the gain isnt very responsive...turn just a little and it might not adjust at all....then turn a hair more and your peg'n the needle....takes some getting used to.

i bought both mine used and got great deals on them...thats the main reason i own one now....if i were to buy new and had the $$$, i would go with tracker or wildlife w/marshalls telescopic antenna or wildlife's fiberglass lookin' antenna that folds under the box...to make it easier to carry....and get the yagi for them just in case.

well, i am done with this weeks product review....lol..

hope this helps you out....Jason

I have an Innoteck Rd-300 for backup. works fine, like Jason said i like the magnet sweep to turn the collar on and off. I have a tracker classic i use and the bad thing about them is where they put the magnets on the collars. I have wasted several batteries b/c of that. Never lost a dog with either systems. Jonah

Thanks for the input guys. I know there are probably better units out there, but this one sounds pretty good for the money. For around 500 bucks you get receiver, antenna and two programmable collars. The best thing I can see about the whole deal is that the receiver picks up all frequncies,216-220. So I could hunt with my buddys or anyone else and track there dogs if I needed to.Iam leaning towards buying one of these units. Any more opinions would be appreciated. Anybody out there who has one of these new units and absolutely does'nt like it?

I had an Innotek rd400 and didn't like it at all. I sold it and bought a Wildlife trx3 and it was the best money I ever spend. JMO. Good luck with whatever you choose.

I had a rd400 and hated it, it bounced around to much and too much interference. bought a tracker classic two dog system and thats the best thing i done. my opinion is dont get the innotek.

MY COUSIN BOUGHT A RD300 BACK IN 2000 AND HE CAN PIN POINT A DOG WITHIN 3 MILES IN ROLLING HILS BUT ANYTHING FARTHER THAN THAT IT GETS FUZZY IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN.

I guess I'm he exception. I have an RD-400, and think it is one of the best purchases I have made. I also have a tracker maxima that cost about $900. If I want to really pinpoint my dog I get the Innotek. The plus side to mine is that I never get interference, even when my buddy can't even use his wildlife because of the interference. I have stood directly under transmission towers and had no problems. As far as not working in the cold, I don't know about that. I've never used mine in less than 20 degrees. I did eventually replace the Innotek collars with Quick tracks.

Well thanks for all the opinions fellas......the only problem now is I don't know what the h#ll I'm going to do. Probably go with the wildlife trx-3 thats what my buddies use and its in my price range just liked the idea of an extra collar and all frequencies for about the same money. But I know overall wildlife probably makes the better unit especially for coon hunting.

I have the 300 it suits me.

I do however need a new glass that covers the needle. Long story how it got broke but it was my fault. Anybody know if they are available?
