uninterested pup

i have a 8 mounth old pup that has started tow run track and tree with my old dog but will not take hold of a coon how can i interest him

I wouldn't worry about that. Just keep hunting him. Be sure when you knock a coon out to him that its dead.

I agree. Chances are he may make a good coondog. But if the dog is allready scared to grab a coon and you get him ate up by one then he may never make a coondog. Being a coondog isn't about killing the coon, that's what a .22 is for.

my brothernlaw has a blue dog that will tree coon just about
every time you cut him and has never been much on graben

THE average pup just starts at 8-12 months old..Hes doing pretty good for his age..SOME of the best dogs cant kill a coon if they had to and some just bay them...I feel hes to young to expect a lot out of..Most pups should not be hunted hard .Until they are mature enough to handle it..For most pups that 11-12 months old....
