O What A Night!
Well tonight our club held our annual Fellowship hunt. We had about 12 dogs show up, a little down from the last 2 years but a good turnout anyway.
The hunt was being held just a few miles down the road from me and I went down there I case we needed another guide. I had intended to hunt by pup alone tonight since she is just starting to come on. I wanted to tree a coon with her alone and then I was going to join in with one of the casts which were all hunting less than 10 miles from where I was.
Well 2 casts had left and the 3rd cast was waiting for 1 guy was running late. I headed out to try to tree and easy coon with my pup.
I got about a mile and a half down the road and I blew a tire. No big deal, I'm taking it in on Wed to get new tires and some other work done. I called down to the guy who was hosting the hunt and he and his brother came over and helped me change my tire. We threw on the spare and down the road I went. I went a couple miles down the road and turned out in a nice valley that I've only hunted 4-5 times. It was a beautiful night. weather was just perfect and the high winds that we have had the last 3-4 days finally had quit. I wandering though the valley and my pup struck a poor track. As she worked a track I could hear the other cast further up the valley. Nice hound music all around. My pup ended up running her track into a bulldoze pile so I gathered her up and figured I would head out and maybe jump in with the other cast. I could hear a 2nd cast to my south also making a tree. So I got to the truck and headed down the road and wouldn't you know it, I blew my spare!
Well, I said screw it and drove on the darn rim about 6 miles back home. I had thought of taking the company rig down to jump in with the other casts, but decided to stay home. What a night!
I waited the last 4 nights to do some good hunting tonight, the weather is great and here I am at home again on the darn 'puter!
