I have owned two hounds that were directly Hammer bred, one from Hammer III, and another from Hammer V. I believe every dog in my kennel now has Hammer in them.
Dave Dean believed in his hounds, and his philosophy of breeding, and history has proved he was right. I have tried to center what small breeding I do around the old Mt. Music, and Earl Hill's bloodlines, but anyone that would try to discredit the contribution Dave Dean has made, and the success he has experienced would have to be blind. I will continue to try to improve what I have, but this is a great thread, and long overdue.
Everyone is different with different prefrences, and it is a good thing. Not everyone will hunt Hammer, Smokey River, or blues, or walkers, or whatever; But, it is RIGHT to give credit where credit is due, and Brent, you are exactly right: There are several strains that would not exist if it were not for the efforts of Dave Dean. I would love to meet him.
