Most beneficial impacts on the Black & Tan Bred

In your opininion, what studs or females have contributed the most positive impacts on the Black & Tan breed during the past 15 years? Looking through breed albums and articles, some of the breeders stud dogs that appear to be popular due to the high numbers of dogs advertised are Ron Myers, Bill Schenker, Jimmy Reece, Ed Abel, Gene Hicks, Bill Mack, Lawton Robinson, Kenwood Maeker, Randy Scaggs, John Wood and Clair Chenoweth just to name a few.

What dogs or lines and families have crossed the best or which lines have been most dominant. What problems do B&T breeders need to focus on for overall benefit of the breed?

During the past ten years, Ace, Albert, Schenker's dogs and Ron Myers Ozark Screaming bloodlines have probably sired more pups than most other studs dogs.

There has to be a lot other "local" unheard of reproducers that were bred very limited that produced coondogs. The Hendrick boys in Georgia have accomplished a lot, but are not national promoters. Who in your area always raises a nice hound but just doesn't let the world know about it? Of course we all have different styles and characterists we prefer, but a coondog is still a coondog regardless.

One name that I noticed you missing was Carl Minehart. You caught one dog with a lot of his breeding in Ace. How about Super Sting, Tiger Lilly, Light'n Lace, Moondancer, Walker's Black Bull, Posted Land TJ, Arkansas Doctor J and several others that I'm thinking of right now of which the numbers are too great to mention. Carl disappeared from the coonhound world for a while, but he has a nice little gyp now, and he recently bred her to Set'um Up BoJack. If Carl gets back into breeding it can only mean good things for the B&T breed.

In my opinion Screaming Bo is the dog that has had the greatest impact over the last 15 years. Just due to the number of his direct sons that were promoted as stud dogs, and successful at reproducing good dogs. Egli's Hoss II, Blackland Bear, Myers Mighty Hoss, Blackland Ernie, Splitting Ax, Gilley's Midnight Special. All top producers, and all sired by Bo. There are others that are slipping my mind right now for sure. Bo was one of the greatest if not the greatest reproducer ever, and if he wouldn't have went sterile so young there is no telling where the B&T breed would be right now.

I would like to know more about Rock? What sire and dam produced this hound? Where is he located? Give us some details, please.

Nt.Ch. Gr.Ch. 'PR' George's Magic Sue

Magic Sue was one of the best B&T reproducing females of all time....the list of Grand Nite Champions and Grand Show Champions to her credit reads like a who's who in the B&T Breed. George Richardson was her owner and he spent many hours reseaching pedigrees to decide which stud dog he would breed her to....Williams Black Bullet, Big Time Albert, Lawton Robinson's dog ....every litter produced outstanding offspring. Sue's breeder was Bill Mack. Today that is still the line of dogs I own and promote and I salute those men who established this great line of B&T dogs.

Rock is out of a walker dog and a black and tan. Tam Young's breeding on the B&T side, and Wipeout breeding on the Walker side. He is doing quite a bit of winning, but I think he is setting the message boards on fire even more than he is the woods.

Magic Sue

Magic Sue has definitely made her mark. I have a nine month old in kindergarden that is Magic Sue top and bottom. hopefully she will move on to middle school soon. I have to have Magic Sue, a shot of Coal Mtn Mork way back, Screaming Bo a little closer along with a tad of Robinson's Black Bandit. This combination works well for me.

I would have to say Combs and Smiths Smokey,he did a lot of winning, and so did his pup's. Myers Bo has put some good ones on the ground. I also think that these two bloodlines complement each other very well..

We like a mix of Ozark screaming Bo with Combs and Smiths Smokey, Then add some Robinson's Black Bandit. For us Ragin HossII up close seems to really give them lots of go power and tree power.

I'd agree with previous folks about Combs and Smith's Smokey and Myers Bo.

I've never seen a Bo bred dog that was monkey faced, but the dew claws were in B&T's long before Bo and exist in other strains of B&T's, and even other breeds, as well.

Lots of pups are sold I guess, but do not see many show up in the winners circle other than hounds they are campaigning personally.

Ron Myers stock shows up continuously. Ron will tell you that you will get dew claws sometimes, but most of his stuff has a dark face, trimmed nicely with rich tan. They go hunting, are loud and get treed with a coon above them.

If you are looking for Meyers bred hounds, don't overlook Ted Feeler. He really has a good program going, but people keep overlooking him. He has a good system going and he is looking to the future too.

Jeff Nelson's Rex dog just keeps producing winners, but for some reason people shun this dog too. I'll never under stand it. These two men win with multiple dogs every year, but people continue to go elsewhere.

When I see someone winning year after year, I get some of that blood here.

I've never seen a Bo bred dog with a monkey face either. You are gonna get dogs with a lot of black, rarely anything with more tan than average. These dogs have their faults just like the rest of them, but they will sure make things happen. This line is the most consistant line of hounds for producing hard hunting, fast tracking, hard treeing hounds with good mouths that I know of.

I'm really liking the 2 hounds I have from Johnny and Bruce Gilliams' line of Hounds. Ive had 2 out of Hobo's Hoss, one was stolen and the other is in my kennel now. I also have a Tige pup that is doing well too.

Overlooked Black Dog!!!!!!!!

First things first, Everyone on here has a oponion on what bloodline is the best. When it comes to producing competition hounds, there is one B&T that is heads and shoulders above all the hounds you have mentioned. Cypress Brake Set'em Up Ace has produced more Nt.Ch. and Gr.Nt.Ch. than any dog listed on this thread and there top 3 producing pups put together. If you think I am wrong add them up.Ace has produced, as of July 2003 Bloodline, 105 total Nt.Ch.and Gr.Nt.Ch's. Gr.Nt.Ch. Screaming Bo has 36, HossII has 29, Mighty Hoss has 22, and Bear has 16 for a total of 103. Ace has produced more Nt.Ch.& Gr.Nt.Ch. Than Screaming Bo and his top 3 Producing Sons all added Together!!!! You Can't Argue with those Numbers, Ace is the Best in the Business when it comes to Black Dogs!!!!!!!Ace has produced 1415 pups and The 4 other dogs listed have produced 1479 pups. So Ace even has a Greater % of his pups making it that all 4 together........ The best part of it all is You Can Still Breed to Ace, The Reece's ran a ad on him last month in the Cooner!!!!!

SAMHAIN I HAVE A YOUNG DOG THAT HAS GOT BO TOP AND BOTTOM.HE HAS A LOT OF GO AND WIL NOT STAY IN YOUR LIGHT.WHEN HE TREES I CALL IT TREEING WALKER STYLE.TREE HUGGING AND SLOBBER MOUTH. IN 4 AND 5 GEN. HE HAS FIDDLER 5 TIMES. BUT HE IS NOT A TRAINED DOG BY NO MEANS. SOME NIGHTS I WANT TO LEAVE HIM IN THE WOODS. I THINK HE MAY BE SO INDENTPENT IT COULD BE A FAULT. HE IS NOT CONSISENT ENOUGH IN HIS TREEING. SOME NIGHTS HE WILL GO YOUNDER AND MAKE THINGS HAPPEN. AS FAR AS HIS LOOKS HE IS THE BEST LOOKING DOG I HAVE EVER OWNED. HE IS A GRAND SHOW CHAMPION. I CAN ONLY HOPE HE WILL PUT IT ALL TOGETHER SOMEDAY.HE COULD BE A FORCE TO RECKON WITH OR HE COULD NEED A 22 BULLET BETWEEN HIS EYES. I DONT THINK I COULD DO THIS THOUGH.WIL THE BLOODLINES PROVE OUT?

Ace is a reproducer,no doubt, but i think he's suffering from over exposure.I've always heard that alot of the females bred to him couldn't tree a coon if their life depended on it and was bought because of their bloodlines and never put in the woods (this happens in all the breeds) and that's why all the culls are for sale.I'm going to try me a black dog, just haven't decided which bloodline yet.
