Training tips

Howdy Bruce,

I didn't listen to any pods, but I read several of his articles. Actually, he has many very good ideas I have read before. His theories are very similiar to Ceasar Milan, "The Dog Whisper".

I just finished reading Ceasar's book. Both men follow very similiar trains of thought. I believe that if we are raising a dog to be a family pet many of these training ideas are right on. However, there are some of these methods that I believe would be bad for our hounds. I will have to admit I am trying a couple of minor techniques with our lastest young dogs, and so far the desired responses are favorable.

Our hounds fall into a different category than plain ole pets or so-called working dogs that aren't really allowed to free cast. That is the big difference between our dogs and these other types. With these other dogs, control must be complete. I think such a level of control over our hounds would actually stifle some of the hunting instincts that we are breeding towards. That doesn't mean that there isn't somethings here that could benefit us coon hunters either. I just figure it is like all the other advice out there. Read it and see if any of it fits into your program, or make the needed changes that provides a better fit for you.

Needless to say, it gives us all something to chew on.
