fish oil

friends have a dog that got treated, and she still looked pretty bad. The vet said try fish oil (can buy at petstores for dogs) on her food, and in 1 week she started clearing up.

I live in W.V. We take them to the sulfur creek and find a place where the sulfur deposit is deep and drip the dog in it and make sure you get the sulfur all over the spots ands it is killed in most cases. If it is really bad you may have to drip them twice. the sulfur dries out the mange and you can see a diff. in a few days.

One of the problems with mange is that the dog is likely to get secondary skin infections from all the scratching. That cannot be cleared up with any mange treatment. You need that to be diagnosed by a vet and some antibiotics.

I took some pups once that were so bad it took a month to get them over it. I used ivermectin orally, triple iodine baths several times a week, benadryl orally for the itching and changed and bleached their bedding and kennel every day.

Another thing you guys need to understand that is if your dogs are getting mange, you've got immune system problems with those dogs. Maybe you need to look at your feed and upgrade to a better quality.

I put fish oil in my dogs' food every day. I think it helps their coats and I know it's good for circulation.

Mange can be treated several ways! I went to the vet they give Ivomec pig wormer under the skin to kill it! Only took once and it was the last time I have ever seen it! But you need the weight of the dog so you know how much to give!

Go to your local feed store and get you a tub of Nu-Stock, it will cure the mange and any other skin problems that might accure with it. Jayson

If you take it to the vet all they are gonna do is mix you up some ivomec and a few vitamins with it to curb the taste of it.Better off doing it yourself.Burnt motor oil also will cure it. I used both burnt motor oil and ivomec on a young dog I had. Gave it the ivomec mixture for 7 that the vet gave me.Did not apear to get better.Got some burnt motor oil and brushed it on the spots. In a week he had all his hair growing back.

Petroleum products are carcinogens. Putting motor oil, burnt or not, on your dog is asking for it to get cancer down the road.

I think more of my dogs than that.

Phil I was about to ask if it was Demadex mange "Red Mange" and if so that is passed along in the gene pool and will continue to show up and possibly in pups later..........I've had it once in my life time with a dog purchased and culled it as my vet then told me in no certain terms to use this dog for breeding.

My daughter just spent close to $1000 for a breedable dog from a top AKC kennel and the dog at 3 months old now has Demadex mange and this women told her to give her Ivomec and still breed her ???????????????????????

I've got a PM in to top AKC rep and have also Emailed the president of that breed club wanting info on this practice in the kennel club but have not gotten any response as of yet and going on a week now.

Red mange to us coon hunters is a fault and should not be used in our breeding program, and yes the dog should be culled in my opinion.

Thought you were talking about my sister in law til I read what the vet told her-sounds like we need to cull the vet!! LOL

Demadex recurs due to a weak immune system. All dogs have the mite, it only shows up when the dog can't control the reactions. This is what the vet told my sis. Her dog is now spayed (not a coonie, just a pet now), on the advice of her vet.

She is still treating the dog, 6 half strength dips of prescription treatment (I don't know what but i can find out) and the dog is doing well. Treatments are down to once a year...maybe. So if you keep the dog around treatment is viable-I would definitely not say breeding is though.

There are two kinds of mange, the Sarcoptic which is easier to treat, and the demadex. The demadex or "red mange" is very bad to deal with as it is often reaccuring and can be passed on. Sarcoptic mange however is not.
My parents have a standard poodle that got loose outside one day. Found her three days later, two weeks after that she starts loosing hair... treated her for sarcoptic mange in May and she is just now starting to grow hair back in. It can take a while, there isn't a quick cure for it no matter what some people say. The most humane thing for the dog is to get it seen by a vet. There can be other secondary symptoms brought on by this condition, none of which are pleasant for the dog. And please don't use bleach and burnt motor oil on your dogs! Bleach is a POISON... and motor oil is a great way to give your dog cancer and respiratory problems.

kidsndogs..........the breeder who will not do anything about the dog is the one who told her to treat the dog with Ivermek and then use her for breeding

My daughters vet is my old vet from down south and has told her in no way use this dog for breeding

This must be a practice used from some of the major Big breeders from other kennel clubs (guess it could be all of the kennel clubs) but we are just dealing with one right now !!!!!!

Any breeder who would tell you how to treat a dog with a fault and then tell you to use it for breeding has done it...is doing it....and will continue to do it...........

and this is where the kennel clubs need to step in, shut them down and run them out of business, because they do no good for those of us who try and do the right thing, they just sell more junk, get folks who purchase this junk and they keep runing ads on web sites saying they are registered with a big kennel club and the kennel clubs do nothing to protect the buyers out there

Keep the do if you want, hunt it, keep it as a pet............but don't breed it, never breed it..........and these large breeders need to be run out of town on a rail !!!!!!!!!!!!

In most cases, where there is a skin disease,(Exc. red mange) fleas usually are involved. Keep your dog flea free, and that will take care of most skin problems.

P.S. Try to say " Flea Free" five times real fast.
