one hour hunt

I have heard that U K C has been thinking of giving the clubs a chance to hold 2 one hour hunts one right after the other ,where you hunt the first hour and then enter and go back out for a second hunt. sounds great if it is true, does anyone know anything about this

In an era where you can title a dog without ever hunting against another cast of dogs, it's as if they just can't cheapen these titles enough.
Why not just sell them on the open market? NtCh $500. GrNtCh $1000.

Seriously, if you are in favor of this, then you just aren't willing to work for it anymore.

I agree 100% JiM ...you don't have to hardly do anything to title a dog anymore....

I'd be in favor of two, two hour hunts back to back. Save gas, and open up alot of opportunity for folks that have a hard time getting away early enough to make the early hunt. Anymore, I'd be more likely to show up at midnight for a late round than I would 8 for an early.
Hate the idea of one hour casts though.

Cory, what time does your clubs usually hand out awards? 2:00am, 3:00am, 4:00am? Ok, so you think those clubs are interested in handing out 2nd round awards at 5:00am, 6:00am or 7:00am? I doubt it.

I've got a very limited knowledge of competition hunting but Franklin county's FFA has a comp hunt every year and I've hunted in it for the last few. They always do a one hour hunt and I hate it. I have no clue why they do it like that, but I hate the one hour hunts.

I have an idea for one hour hunts. Lets just award 1/2 of a 1st place win to the dog that wins a one hour hunt and then require them to win a second (1 hour) hunt to obtain a whole 1st place win that would count toward their Champion degree, LOL.

That way, you could probably still get tucked into bed before the 11:00 news on the nights you wanted to attend a 1 hour hunt. The only problem is it might cost you twice as much money to earn your champion degree..

JUst kidding guys & gals but I couldn't resist.

Maybe I'm the minority, but I would be in favor of the double header hunts. Myself, I'm not a fan of the one hour hunt, but these hunts would need to be one hour events if you were going to hold two hunts in one night.

The reason I'm in favor of the double header is because of work. I cannot make a lot of the hunts due to the event deadline, but I could make the deadline for the "late round" hunt.

Most of the hunts I attend are an hour or more drive, so trying to make a 7PM deadline is almost impossible.

I like it Freddie. The 1 HR hunts I've been on in other kc's are fun and competitive. You're hound has to get it done quick, and less time to make up for mistakes. It'd be great for clubs, and for folks that can't make it to the early hunts.

They'd really be crying if hunts were still 3hrs.
Where you actually had to pack a coondog to win at a local club when 40+ hounds were the normal............

I don't think the clubs in my area would be interested at all, but I personally would. My schedule is such that when I get a chance to go hunting, I make a night of it, a whole night. If this were an option and I could talk our club into doing it, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Majority rules, and I'm pretty sure I'm minority on this one, just feel like it would benifit me, and some others that work alot of hours and have alot of kid/family activities early in the night.

one hour hunt

every one getting older, artifical knees and hips less hunters ,this would give the clubs a chance to pay the way and exist.

I'M GAME! Double headers are fun. You get the chance to hunt with another cast with different folks at a different spot. I hope the do it!

one hr. hunts

I'm all for it. There are alot of older guys like my own dad that just can't last a full two hr hunt. I some times let him enter as the handler and I will enter as his backup so when he's ready to tap out I can finish the hunt. He generally makes It about 1hr. If there were 1hr. hunts to go to we'd both enter a dog.
