Far from a dying sport!

We just had 80 entries over the weekend at a youth event that went off without a single hitch. I feel the sport is in better shape than people think. So don't give up, the best may be yet to come.

Talking with a buddy on the phone tonight he said the kids in his area have started to pick up the dog leads because the school sports are shut down. His boys were included into his statement. Which only his oldest boy was interested in coon hunting until this summer, and they've invited friends over to hunt.

Hearing these tales of younger hunters getting involved with our sport of coon hunting is so enlightening to me. With all of the distractions our young folks have today, I am so proud of the ones that choose to coon hunt. Coon hunting is so much more than chasing dogs through the dark, it's enjoying the bond between hunters and dog, enjoying the great outdoors, developing friendships that last a lifetime , and many more positive things that make ones life better. Hunting was even something the our first president and the Father of our Country George Washington enjoyed hunting
with his dogs. George bred his English Foxhounds to some French Hounds and got what was known as the Virginia hounds thought to be the predecessors of our modern Coon hounds. Dave
