Dog peeing in her house!

I have a young female that has just recently started peeing in her dog house. She didn't do it all summer with the wood chips in there I just noticed it after I started putting grassy hay in for her winter bedding. I have made her house smaller so she only has enough room to go in and lay down. I removed the hay cleaned the house with baking soda and some urine destroyer to get rid of the smell and put a dog bed in there she destroyed the dog bed and left all the fluff from the inside in there, still peed in her house. She has peed in the dog box several times as well. Any ideas?

Pew Pew

Watching this one close!!

Got a 9yr old been doing this for YEARS

My advice, keep plenty of straw on hand!! if you wanna try "tricking" a lil bit. Put some inside as well as some in an area out, see if she pee's on outside pile as well! cant hurt anyway!! Maybe just a scent thing, they just trying to keep their scent in their domain!! Pine flakes on bottom to absorb and fresh straw and rotate when COLD COLD otherwise ha let em be nasties!!!

I have one that does the same thing and its mostly during the winter when she is housed with straw.

I been thinking of buying one of those sissy pee pads like they make for house pets I'm of the opinion that my dog feels more comfortable peeing on the straw than she does the wooden (off the ground) flooring.

Has anybody tried these pee (grass pads) and if so did it work??

Both my females do this also and have since they were puppies. I did get them broke from doing it when in a crate inside.

As mentioned above, if you put some straw around the outside of the house she should pee on that instead, that works for me. Mine are on concrete. One female will kick the straw out of the box now so she can pee on it.

I prefer hunting females but this is a weird quirk. Then again my males dogs pee on everything but the inside of their houses lol.

I do not know if it can be broke and I wouldn't try to hard. I've had a couple over the years and I absolutely hate it.

Build your dog boxes low enough they can't get their head up and it will cure the problem, put a false ceiling in if you need to.. Not hard with plywood and some cleats. That is how I handled one who was a very good dog, but a box pisser.. Been a lot of years ago thank God..

Re: Dog peeing in her house!

One way is to lock them out of thier box for a while and They will start going outside, works great on pups. Bad thing now is that it is cold.

Thank you all for the suggestions. If she wasn't making such a nice hound I wouldn't put up with it. I would shorten her house, but don't think it would matter she will pee in the dog box some times and I know she can't stand up in there. I will try putting some straw outside of her house on the concrete and see if that works. Her house is inside a shed so I may just go back to the wood chips as I don't think she would be that cold in there anyway.

Had a similar issue once. I made it to where the inside of the box was so small there was only enough room for her to lay down in it. Nothing more. She started pissing outside the box then and I took out the blocks and she never did it again.
