Young people

Yall wonder why coon hunting is disappearing. We grew up watching Tom and Jerry; Road Runner and Wily Coyote; Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd. Today's youngsters grew up watching Barney and the Cookie Monster.

Wonder….

Too many choices. We are no longer a country of small rural communities. Stop and think. If you are 60+ I bet you can remember at least 6 if not more homes/farms that use to be there. It just is not politically correct thing. The world is now microwave ready. Coonhunting is a life long journey. I am glad for everyone that slowed down and shared their coonhunting world with me. If I get a chance I always try to pay it forward. Share a story or an old Full Cry with a kid. Let them tag along. Thanks Perry

Then and Now.

I'm going to use 1978 as a base point. That's when I could drive and go by myself. We could get an average of $20-$25 per hide. At 3 coon per night, that would be $60-$75 per night in coon hides (some nights were better, some nights worse). That's in my territory.

1978 CPI = 65.2
2022 CPI = 294.4

2022 CPI of 294.4 divided by 1978 CPI of 65.2 = Approx. 4.5.

Now, multiply that 4.5 x the $60-$75 per night in coon hide money. In todays dollars, that would amount to: $270-337.50 per night in coon hide money for the same 3 coon per night. That's $90 - 112.50 per hide.

So, let's split the difference and say it would be $100 per hide in todays dollars. Now, they are worth basically nothing.

If coonhide prices had kept pace with inflation, you'd see a lot more kids and adults hunting today. Yep, they'd even sacrifice their video games!!!

One or two good weeks of hide hunting would make you more than almost all of the PKC Money Winning leaders of today, and you would not have entry fees to deduct from the winnings!!!

There was A LOT more money in the game back then!!!
