Growing Pains

Oh my goodness, who would think that in these days of quarantining, people staying home, hunts being cancelled and coonhunters decreasing in general that UKC would have problems with a huge increase in a program. Their Tournament of Champions was designed to increase the number of dogs in local hunts and reward top level coon hunters with a little money. Well it looks like it has been a huge success. Who would have thought that in the year of the panicdemic 1,000 dogs would have 5 cast wins and get qualified for the 4 regional hunts? If they all were to show up, each regional could have 250 dogs. Now there won't be an equal distribution so a couple of the regionals could have 300-400 dogs. Now that could potentially create a problem but it would be a good problem to have.

But there's going to be 936 dogs that won't make the top 64 dogs. So 936 won't get anything.

A lot more than that paid an extra $5,00 per hunt won't get anything.

Those 936 will get the satisfaction and enjoyment from knowing they tried.

I just don't see the appeal of entering this hunt. Its not a true elimination style hunt like it was supposed to be originally. I bet there's a bunch that get upset when they figure out they have to hunt a zone hunt (since I know about 5 that don't) Not to mention they're taking double cast winners with "HIGHEST" scores first out of all the dogs, then highest single scores. That's not an elimination hunt. That's their normal hunt format for any of their bigger hunts.

How many fake scores will be wrote on the cards for this hunt do you figure? Wonder if there's already a winner decided?

I guess if you don't see the appeal on winning 50K i don't know what to tell you. It is an elimination hunt just keep beating the 3 dogs in your cast. If you can't win 2 cast to move on that means you were eliminated in 1 cast cause you lost.

Nope not necessarily. Its going all off of scores just like any other bigger UKC hunt and the old hunt format was like. Hope you draw a good guide because you might draw one with poor coon population.

I bet its going to take at least 900+ to make the 64. But that's probably low.

I will be guiding. i can guarantee the scores will be no different then the world zones to get thru. single cast score of around 400-500+ to get thru. I'd also bet that out of those 1000+ dogs that got there 5 cast wins that at least 30% won't enter.

I see where they had so many dogs qualified that they had to add another regional hunt in Kentucky.

TOC HUNT

The odds are way better in this hunt that many major hunts and a whole lot better than winning the lottery. The extra 5.00 dollars got the handlers a lot more bang for their buck. Look at the positive side of things, it CERTAINLY is a lot more than you used to have. Someone is going to be very happy when they win this hunt. Dave

Am I correct that us Canadian citizens can’t compete or at least win the TOC?
