I know without a doubt I can hear better with my light off!
Is that nuts?

Hearing

That's because your dad or grandad always told you to turn your light off when the dogs struck! Lol

Yep . Your brain cant fully consentrate on 2 things at same time. Light on you see things. Light off your brain not processing things eyes are looking at.

Lack of one of the senses enhances the others. Grandad was right.

And now for safety reasons--

they have dogs that don't open on track so everyone can keep their lights ON.

Lol! I have hunted coonhound for a long time and never realized the truth in this. Until the other night I was yelling at my kids to shut their lights off I couldn't hear my dog. They looked at me like what in the world did he say lol

Lights

Lol. Funny as it sounds, this must be something a lot of hunters do, I always have. Turning the lights off gives us a chance to just focus on the sound of the dogs, without a distraction, I was taught this at an early age and now at 71 I still turn my lights off when I want to focus on hearing the dogs trail or tree. It works

I think it works cause people stop moving around so much when it's dark. Though I do shut my light off when hunting alone, so I hear better.
