Question about getting new dogs.

When you get a new hound, do you hunt them the first night you get them? Or do you wait a few days and let them get familiar with you first?

Best to pet and handle one awhile but if its a coondog thats gonna go tree a coon then they dont care who turns them loose.
Throw a track collar on him and let er rip.ha.

I let the individual dog tell me the answer. If one is a little goofy, or acts nervous, I’ll mess around with it in the pen. Make it eat while I’m standing there, handle it around the yard, etc. But if a dog acts sane, and I have a reasonable assumption that it’s going to go make a tree somewhere, I won’t hesitate to hunt it the first night.
