I will get the papers in the mail this morning.

Hunting has been slow for me the past 2 weeks. Football started and also I have been tied up with some personal issues handling some affairs for my late father. Hopefully I will be back on track next week. Ole dogs been looking at me funny the past few days. LOL
We are having a break in the weather here over the last 2 days. 61 degrees this morning and I was wishing I could have went last night.

HUNT

Drake, Griffin and myself went for a little while Saturday night. We cut Cotton, Andy and Cy loose. We sat there in complete silence. I checked the Garmin and Andy had hit the creek and was headed to a gravel road. Cotton was 575 yds straight across bottom. Cy was 375 yds behind us. Cy has developed quite a bit of independence. I LIKE IT!!
We drove around and caught Andy as he was about to cross the gravel road. Don't want him on the other side if I can help it. I checked the Garmin and Cotton was nearly a mile down the bottom by now. We moved around and got within 575 yds of her. We got out of the truck and about 5 minutes later she located and went to hammering a tree. We made our way in to her and she had a coon on the edge of a beaver slash. We moved back around close to Cy and called him out. He was opening every once in awhile along the creek. It was about 11:30 and I cut Cy alone around some muscadine vines. He opened almost immediately and started locating on his back feet. I just watched him and let him figure it out. He soon started moving down the holler on a track. He moved out good but soon bogged down. He hushed for about 5 minutes and located and treed. He was up a persimmon tree that was loaded with persimmons and muscadines. I looked for a little while and seen a eye. I moved around for a better view and seen a slick tail hanging down. Dang possum!! I just leashed ole Cy up and took him to the truck. We will hit it again tonight! Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!!

HUNT

Went for a little while last night. Didn't have a good hunt.
A guy went with me and Drake that had a 1/2 redbone and 1/2 walker. We cut Andy and Cotton loose with his redbone. Andy struck followed by Cotton and they started bumping around on a bad track. I got a little frustrated with them as they were not moving the track at all. The red dog came out to us and I don't think he could smell the track at all. Both dogs located around on a couple of trees and Andy finally committed and treed. Cotton came in and backed him. They were on a tall tree that ran into a couple of larger trees and we didn't see a coon. We cut them off that tree and Cotton struck followed by Andy. They worked down the creek and Andy located and treed. Cotton never would commit and we walked into the tree. Andy was standing in the middle of a slew run on his back feet winding up and treeing. We looked around the surrounding trees but didn't see a coon. It was full of muscadine vines and really growed up. Cotton came in to me when we were headed out to the truck. It was hot and I will be glad when cooler weather gets here!!!

Its going to be so hot this weekend Im going to hang it up and let the dogs lay around. The wife better get ready to be harassed!!!! We ain't got much longer and it will be nice. You going to jasper hunt? If so good luck.

HUNT

Had a quick hunt last night. We cut Andy and Cotton loose about 8:30 in a creek bottom. They were about 400 yds and Andy struck and Cotton opened quickly after him. They worked a track deep and hit the creek. They turned and came back down the creek towards us. They got him up and moving and Cotton located followed immediately by Andy. We made our way in to them and they were treed up a small pine that ran into a large pine. They had a coon and we left him to run again. It was about 10:30 when we got to the truck. Drake had school so we called it a night. We will hit it again tomorrow night.

Ur pines must be a lot better than the big ol white pines we got around the house. Every time I walk into them treed on a pine I just cringe!!! Lol wasted a lot of 22 bullets over an ol pine tree!!! U the man!!! Keep up the good work with ur hounds buddy & give me a call sometime. Having to put in electric fence around my place today. Thanks to Dirty, I always said he was wired 440, I guess we will see!!!!

HUNT

I have been extremely busy with football and I call on schools for my company, Pepsi, Dr Pepper Bottling Co.
Hopefully I have got all my schools sort of leveled out and will be back in the woods like I need to be. I only hunted 2 nights last week and 3 the week before so I am slacking. Should be able to be back on track this week. It has been very hot and dry here but been treeing a coon or two. Rough on dogs and handler. I am going after them tonight.

you picked a good time to be busy. to dang hot and dry. i think its a good idea to let the weather cool down may do more harm than good. don't get he wrong i still want to be out there.

HUNT

Drake and myself went for a little while last night. We cut Andy and Cotton loose in the bottom. It is as dry in there as I have seen in a long time. Dogs stayed gone for a very long time and I looked at the Garmin. They had gone deep and hit the creek. The creek circles back around and crosses under a paved road. We drove around about a mile and got within 500 yds of them. They were trailing but only opening every once in awhile. Andy soon went on a tree and Cotton hit it hard but I heard her open on the ground a few times before she committed to the tree. They treed hard and we made our way to the tree. The timber had been cut about 13 or 14 years ago and all that was left was the big timber on the creek and a few slough runs. It was overgrown with chain briars and hedge trees and bushes. We finally got to the dogs and they were up a small tree running into a den tree. They were right on the edge of a beaver pond. We squalled and looked but never seen a coon. Probly in the den if he was there. By the time we got out of there it was getting late so we called it a night. Got football practice this evening so we will hit it tomorrow night. Went by myself last night. Had a good night. First drop I cut cotton and Cy. Cotton got deep and treed a layup. Cy couldn't do much with it. Next drop I cut Andy and Cy. They struck a decent track and worked it up in the hills. Andy loaded up and Cy soon backed him. Knocked this one out and called it a night as I got a late start. Y'all keep'em Lookin up. Darren

HUNT

I went by myself last night for a little while. I hunted Andy, Cy, and a pup I call Rebel. Rebel is a mate to Cotton, but is 6 mths old. Cotton is coming in heat so she is standing in the pen. First drop I cut all 3 dogs. Andy went left and Cy and Rebel went left. Andy went down the creek and at about 200 yds he just fell treed. I made my way to him and he had a coon up a huge water oak full of muscadines.
I looked at the Garmin and the two pups were 700 yds to the right. Cy was opening every once in awhile. I cut Andy the other direction down the creek. He struck in at over a mile. I barley could hear him so I moved closer. I soon heard him treed and drove around. He was treed in a pasture alongside a creek. He was on a huge den. I got him and cut him on down the creek. He struck quickly and at about 250 yds he treed. He had 2 up one tree right on the side of the road. I rolled one of them out to him. I loaded Andy up and went back around to check on the pups. Rebel came out to me but Cy is hard headed. He kept trying to tree but would not stick it. I finally walked in to him at about 400 yds just to see what was going on with him. There was a DEEP ditch and a hog wire fence that had just messed him up. He hasn't got enough experience to handle those situations just yet. I caught him up and called it a night. I liked the fact that Cy is independent and doing his own thing. A few more easy coons will get his confidence built on up. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!!!

Football

Well my hunting has taken a backseat to football for a few weeks. We played our first game on Saturday night. It didn't start off too well with the other team kicking an onside kick and getting it. We rebounded and won the game 36 to 8. Y'all keep'em Lookin up.

FOOTBALL

Darren, that's a great thing your doing by being a volunteer to help coach those kids in football. Those hounds probably needed a little rest and some cooler weather. Putting your time into coaching impacts those kids in a positive way and keeping them on a field playing ball or in the woods hunting keeps some of them out of trouble later in life. Good luck to you and the team.

I enjoy coaching for sure. I have coached on the youth level for about 16yrs and the Junior Varsity and Varsity level for about 3 yrs. It is like having another job but one young man's life gets changed and it is worth it.

Cy opened soon after but was only about 450 yds to my right. Cy's track didn't seem too good and he wasn't doing much with it. Andy had hit the creek and was steadily goin yonder way. I drove around as Andy was nearly a mile away by now. I got out of the truck and he was treed in a pine thicket. I got to him and he was treed on a huge water oak that was left on the creek. It was full of muscadines. I never could get the coon to look. I drove back around and gathered up Cy. I called it a night as I had gotten a late start.

Went for a little while last night. Took Andy and Cy. Cotton is still in heat. Andy left hard and got deep quick. He worked an old bad track up out of the bottom and into the hills. He soon loaded up and I made my way to him. I cringed when I saw the huge persimmon tree loaded with persimmons. I don't think the ole masked bandit was home on this one. Cy was the other way down the bottom and I drove around and called him out to me. Called it a night.

It was extremely dry as we have not had any rain. Andy was crossing a paved road at a ditch and I caught him up. Cy had already sneaked by me and finally got treed. He was up a pine with muscadine vines. I saw the coon one time but never got him to look again. Next drop they stayed gone for a long time and started opening sporatically. They stayed hushed for a long time and Andy came on a tree right. He treed hard and I made my way to the tree. Cy was opening down a small creek and Andy was on a large tree. i could never see the coon and Cy came in to the tree. It was about 12:00 am by then and I called it a night. I will be back at it Friday night.
