Also spray my leggings with the permethrin and cuts way down on the ticks on me. I wear some kind of chaps all summer long and they are pretty much saturated lol.

I'd try Purina Pro Plan EN Naturals or Hills I/D diets. I like them both for situations like this. They cost a little more but they are worth it. Another lower cost one is Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin and Stomach diet.

Just get a good Permethrin spray from your local farm supply store. You can buy the concentrated type and dilute it to save money or just get the ready to spray on type. After dilution, these products cost less than 10 cents per bottle. Each diluted bottle will last you for weeks to a month. I have a female with a terrible ear infection. It's only in one ear and it's so bad there's a thick substance running out of it. It tried a few things but it keeps coming back. Any suggestions.

no heat cycle

I have a female dog that will be 3 this spring. I've had her since she was 8 weeks. I've not seen her go through a cycle yet. She doesn't have a problem with energy or weight. I'm feeding the blue bag of Sexton feed. It's really not a problem hunting wise, but if I were to ever want to have her bred...
Any ideas?

You need to work with your vet on that one. Those severe infections can lead to inner ear infection and need systemic antibiotics to clear them. Inner ear infections can cripple a dog from vestibular disease.

I'd have her thyroid checked. I'd also try a different brand diet if the thyroid is normal.

I have a male that tested positive for elichria and I also had thyroid checked which was low. Can the elichria sis throw thyroid off or are they two completely separate issues. We pulled blood and sent off to lab on thuroid.

Yes tick borne disease like Ehrlichia can be a common cause for low thyroid hormone. It's called Euthyroid Sick Syndrome.

If giving the thyroid medication helps I would continue it. At some point you might be able to wean this dog off the thyroid meds. Keep working with your vet closely to be sure you are monitoring the thyroid levels.

Thanks.. Are more of the thyroid problems we are seeing due to the increase in elichriosis or is it more of a genetic problem. My vet says he tends to see it more in treeing walkers versus other breeds. Do certain bloodlines tend to have it more than others?

It's hard to say at this point. He probably sees it in more Treeing Walkers because there are 10 x more TW than all the other breeds put together. I do think there are some bloodlines carrying the gene for hypothyroidism. I also think there are a lot of dogs that are misdiagnosed as hypothyroid when they are really sick euthyroid.

Thank you for educating us about our dogs. My question-I have a pup that was given a combo Parvo shot at 6 weeks of age. Bad vaccine/bad handling? 3 of the 7 pups died and the rest were very sick. I have now picked up my pup and he was pretty thin from being so sick but is gaining well now. He is 8 weeks old so by the every 2 weeks protocol it would be time to vaccinate. Would you or would you wait till you were sure he was completely back to form?
