How to stop Dog from Jumping on Tree

I have a lightly started 14 month old male that goes nuts at the tree. He is too busy trying to get in the tree with the coon that it keeps him from barking alot. He actually takes running shots at the tree and catapolts off almost 8 feet high. I am pretty green to coon hunting but I know that jumping like that is an undesired trait. Anyone have any tips or techniques that may curb or eliminate his desire to jump??

Jumping......

As soon as you get to the tree, put lead strap on him and tie him up, giving just enough slack to stand on tree........

Take about a 8 inch chain. On one end put a snap on it, on the other end put a heavy padlock on it. When u get to tree snap the snap onto his collar. When he jumps the padlock will smack him therefore making him not want to jump bc it hurts. Works for me.
