This week’s article takes us back to the familiar early 90s within the Redbone breed, with GRCH GRNITECH ‘PR’ Outlaw Billy the Kid. Billy was born in March of 1991 as part of a 7-pup litter. Together, this litter would leave quite the mark on the Redbone breed, with the 7 hounds combining to produce 878 pups. Billy and his full littermate brother, GRNITECH GRCH ‘PR’ Key’s Outlaw Jesse James, combined to account for 795 of those pups and all 36 of the titled dogs. Billy the Kid comes in at 5th in the Redbone breed in number of pups produced, and 4th in number of titled dogs produced. Let’s see what he threw.

A lot of top reproducers get an early start breeding females and Billy was no different. His first litter was born in May of 1992, when he was a mere 14 months old. Then 3 months later, in August of 1992 his first titled hounds were born. That was a 6-pup litter out of ‘PR’ Lamine River Outlaw Red Cheyenne that produced 2 titled hounds, GRNITECH ‘PR’ Wapsi River Cookie and NITECH ‘PR’ Stampka’s Outlaw Sue.

The mid to late 90s is when his popularity really started to boom, according to the number of litters produced in that timeframe. That is when the bulk of his top hounds were born. Including a 9-pup litter born in March of 1996 out of NITECH CH ‘PR’ Big G Farms Cinderella, that had 4 dogs title out. Those 4 were WCH GRFCH GRCH ‘PR’ Outlaw U2, NITECH ‘PR’ Jeffries Outlaw Red Man Red, CH ‘PR’ Gradeless’ Bitter Sweet Brutus, and NITECH ‘PR’ Bundick Bottom Sioux Baby. Then in June of 1996 a litter from ‘PR’ Lamine River Outlaw Wendy hit the ground with 3 of 7 earning titles, including NITECH ‘PR’ Outlaw Mandy Two, NITECH ‘PR’ Outlaw Belle Star, and CH NITECH ‘PR’ Mosquito Creek Outlaw Kate. 3 GRNITECHs were produced during this stretch as well, GRNITECH CH ‘PR’ Posted Land Red Elvis out of GRNITECH CH ‘PR’ Posted Land Taz born in January of 1996, CH GRNITECH ‘PR’ Posted Land Red Elmo also out of Taz but born from a later litter in November of 1997, and finally GRNITECH ‘PR’ Mosquito Creek Outlaw Sue born in April of 1998 out of ‘PR’ County Line Red Sally.

I feel like a broken record, but again, Billy’s reproduction career has been considerably lengthened by semen collection and artificial insemination capabilities. He has had litters born all the way into this past year. The early 2010s, 20 years after his birth, proved to be a fruitful time for him. A litter born in April of 2011 out of GRCH GRNITECH ‘PR’ Nighty Nite Amber dropped 7 pups with 4 of them titling out, including GRNITECH GRCH ‘PR’ Nighty Nite Little Red Billy, NITECH GRCH ‘PR’ Hershs Huntin Red Beyond Billy HTX, CH ‘PR’ Nighty Nite Anna, and GRNITECH ‘PR’ Outlaw Billy Jean. Then in November of 2011, GRNITECH ‘PR’ KY Moonlight Breanna had an 11-pup litter that had two GRNITECHS, GRNITECH ‘PR’ Outlaw Cherry Bomb and GRNITECH ‘PR’ Bloodshed’s Outlaw Breeze. His last GRNITECH, GRNITECH ‘PR’ Moonlight Outlaw Mac, was born in June of 2012 out of GRNITECH CH ‘PR’ KY Moonlight Kate. With some recent litters on the ground, there is a good chance Mac won’t be the last.
