Garmin Reading Backwards

Myself and a friend were catching up our coyote dogs yesterday. Both had re-calibrated our hand helds ( Alphas). While catching up, both at one time showed a dog straight in front of us ( different dogs with different collars). The yardage was counting down as the dogs were coming in, BUT, the dogs were directly behind us instead of in front like it showed. Any idea why they would be tracking backwards? Thanks.

.

There are a couple ways to set it up. One is Track up and the other is North Up. I would say most of the people operate it with Track up. That means the way you are holding the handheld, the screen will rotate around and that direction you are holding it will be at the top of the screen. If your holding it towards the south, and the dogs are south then south will be at the top.

Few ways to set it up as track up and that is to just touch the direction indication on the map screen which is in the top left of the screen. To see what I am talking about stand with the hand held flat and be facing south. The North indication should be pointing behind you. Touch it and then the screen will swing around and everything will look backwards. Because no matter where you point the handheld it will always have North at the top of the screen. Things can look backwards then.

Only Amish set up for Track Up but they never use anything but compass anyway.

Andy

It is easy to push a button by mistake and get a different heading, I, e. track up or north up. Just check and see what your setting is on tracking. Hope this helps, Dave.
