Anyone ever had a dog that gets sick every time you transport it? I have a real nice little female I cant seem to get over this hump with. I've put her in and open style box, with dogs, alone, closed style box, wire crate, and I've even tied her in the back of the truck with just a lead. When we get where we are going she is covered with drool and sometimes vomit. I can walk her to the woods behind the house without transporting her and she will fly in the woods and hunt great, but when i carry her somewhere it takes her a while, and I'm sure it's because she doesn't feel the best. She just turned a year old yesterday and I really like her a lot. she's treed several coons and split on her on a few times also. Lots of potential, just gotta get past this issue.

Any suggestions on how to fix this from those that have had experience with it would be much appreciated

Yes, my Leopard was like this as a pup. He eventually got over it. It would take him about 10 minutes after getting out to feel better.

Last yr, Dandy puked every time we put him in the car. This winter, we took our dogs on short rides several days a wk and he got over it (we thought). We drove over 2 hrs to a bench show in February and he puked 3 times....he was 13 months old. I fed him earlier and only half of his breakfast, thinking he'd be ok. We've taken him on a few more 1.5 - 2 hr drives since and he's been fine. I still cut back on his food and feed earlier, when we get home, he can have xtra for supper.

Lots of short trips will do your dog a lot of favors imo. It's hard to get your dog over getting sick, if they get sick every time, and every time you haul them until they're sick.

It can become a revolving circle. They get worked up because they dread what's coming, which helps them get sick quicker, and the pattern continues. I've seen dogs start to drool just laying in the box before the vehicle was ever fired up or moved an inch.

It has at least worked for me for several dogs. Don't let them sit in the box at all. Load them up, 5 minute or less trip somewhere, unload them, hunt, walk around, whatever, then back home. Don't give them a chance to get sick and make that box trip associated with the high light of their day. I'm convinced the mental part is half the battle. My experience has been that once I had them over it, I was good to go. 15 minutes or 6 hrs, didn't matter. I never feed before hauling.

Give a couple ginger snap cookies 10 minutes before hauling, this will make their stomach stay settled, works for people too. After about 10 or 20 times of hauling like this, problem is gone.

thanks for all the replies. I tested the ginger snap method last night to no avail. I will try the dramamine avenue next time out. I've hauled her any and every way I know how, but she is not riding in the cab... no way lol... Im tired of cleaning up her mess, if she does it inside the truck I don't know what I would do

I have a busher bred mountain cur that always vomited in the box until recently, she's now 4 yrs old. Even now she drools a lot, enough to make a wet strike on the truck. She's ok if I ride her up front with me.
