mark

mark hope BJ raises them all, I had to go back and count the number of gr nts several times, I get 29 grnts out of 30 dogs in this pedigree, and it may be 30 in time as I know BJ isn't 2 years old yet. hoping one just might find its way to northeast Pa.

Hersh,
she had 9 and has raised them all so far.....excellent mother. Only problem is she had 8 males and 1 female...lol. Really wanted the reverse of that....but maybe that means the next litter will be mostly females

A little more history. There is not much going on today so I thought I would go back several years for a little stimulation. It is a shame that someone (Mr Hyde) can't get us an updated list. I think that his original list only went back five year so there will be several dogs that have dropped off of it now.

Best crosses

I'm not the smartest guy in the world but I've been coon hunting for 30+ years and hunted about every breed there is. Redbones are definitely a breed that are the most enjoyable to hunt. I'm sure I will get some disagreements but just because a dog is titled dont mean it's a (coon dog). It means the dog was better or had a better handler on a few particular nights than the other guys. In my opinion the best cross is a male and and a female that are both accurate, loud, and consistently tree coons that are actually in the tree regardless of hunt, or handler. A good handler will make a mediocre dog look like a million dollars and that's not what a coon dog is. ( again my opinion)

If you go up 3 posts above yours Hersh, I had just made a cross and 9 pups were born 8 males and 1 female.
Since they were born pups from that litter have racked up some impressive results...Including several who have titles and one who has become the highest grossing money winner of all time in the history of the redbone breed with over 21k in winnings. Also since that time we have produced other litters from our breeding program who's pups have won over another 20k in money hunts. I cant speak for everyone else...but when I look at the redbone breed overall, I see some progress being made by several different groups who have been concentrating on producing better redbone competition dogs. When this thread was first made...there had only been one gold champion redbones (Sandy Creek Jake 10k in winnings) since then there have been 3 more that have rose to that level. We also continue to see redbones consistently knocking on the door and making top 20 placings in all of the world hunts. I think we are edging closer. Stay focused and determined folks...our best days as a breed are still ahead of us!

Seems like nobody wants to talk much about breeding redbones anymore like they used to....

If you read this whole thread, it looks like everyone is about talked out. Time to put all of that talk into practice now. Maybe everyone is walking instead of talking.

Hard to believe all these people had so much to say in the past and now they cant walk and talk at the same time about how they came up with the dogs they are "walking" behind now...if that's the case.
Maybe they dont have much to talk about....
Surely there has been some successes and lessons learned and theories proven or disproven concerning breeding redbones over the past 2 or 3 years since this thread started.....

I've seen some good things

Looks like folks who stepped on over and Bred to Jim seem to be really happy. Says alot when you cant buy one off him. I still see alot of the others for sale! Just 2 cents glad to see the redbone forum is still the same and that the big breeders are still doing the same!

Breeding

Only had an accidental litter of 3 here in the past year and the last litter before that was a couple of years ago. I just watch and watch closely. A lot of talk goes on and some like to argue. So I just watch. Can't say I am a breeder because if I said that someone would jump on here and give me the dickens of all that I already know. I haven't produced a litter in prolly three years. So I will just continue watching and hunt what I have here at the house. Truthfully, I hope that all could and would produce quality hounds that could someday win the World hunt. It has been a lot of years since Timber Chopper walked the face of this earth. Would be great to see one that everyone would breed to like he was back then. He seems to be in every dogs pedigree if you go back far enough unless it's a crossbred. Don't know if a Timber Chopper will ever happen again. Oh well, I will enjoy the ride and maybe, Lord willing, I might get some females bred and produce a litter. Good luck. Lucas

Lucas

Wise words. As you know I havent raised a pup in a long time either. It's time to raise a few again. But I dont wanna be classified as a "big breeder" I breed for what I like. And it's worked out good for me. And I'll add for the majority of the folks who got a pup.

It's like you had a crystal ball or something Hersh...
B.J. did finish out to Grand Nite Champion shortly after you posted this and fast forward a few more years and looking back at pups from this cross ...I think 5 are still living including two that became Dual Grand Champions ...who won more money in PKC and CHKC than any redbone in history! Those pups now have pedigrees of 30 straight Grand Nite Champions and are the first and only offspring to have a 4 generation all Grand Pedigree. Of coarse, papers dont mean much until the dog with those papers is validated by proving it can win in competition....which these now have. It's good to go back and look at these old threads and see what was being said and expected at the time from crosses that were just being made. Some of the most highly anticipated and talked about crosses didnt work and some exceeded the expectations of most at the time. But every cross that did work...regardless of the line helped to move the breed a little further ahead.
I will say this right now, but really I already said it a few years back....Dual Grand Champion Moonlight Aftershock is one of the most overlooked stud dogs in the redbone breed right now. The dog was a powerhouse competition winner during his hunting career and is now showing that he is a high percentage reproducer of the same. He is crossing well with both linebred crosses and outcrosses which is rare in this breed so he is one to watch.

In all fairness I’ve been hunting with Richard and he’s better off not trying to walk and talk at the same time and when he’s hunting with me there’s always plenty of tile to stand around lmao

Slick, when I hunt with you, I don't get a chance to do any talking. I am too busy listening.

Kelly, that was a long time ago.
Buck took an exceptional female from a very good litter and outcrossed her to a linebred male that was very near the top of your list. A very good female from this out cross was then bred back to her very nice Gr Nt half brother (who is also on the list) to intensify this line bred cross. Now I bred a very nice pup from this cross back to her outcrossed uncle to further intensify this linebreeding. If you look at the back of this pedigree, all you will see is: Rat X Raven, Bomber X Bell and Lil Zack X Sweetie. The pups that I get should be "prepotent" (I learned that word from mrg) and be able to be outcrossed to any line and reproduce their likeness. The pedigree will look like this:
............................Rat
...................Rabble
.......................................Bomber
.............................Raven
........................................Bell
........Moose
..............................Lil Zack
...................Sally
..............................Sweetie
Pups
............................................Rat
..............................Rabble
.............................................Raven
....................Haze
............................................Bomber
..............................Bombers Red Wire
.............................................Bell
........Wendy
.............................................Rat
..............................Rabble
..............................................Raven
....................Willow
.............................................Lil Zack
..............................Sally
.............................................Sweetie

Sitting here bored, waiting on deadline and I found this. Gr Nt Wilma was one of the pups from this litter and I outcrossed her to Gr Nt Pigeon River Jim to get L's Bella.
