Thanks guys

I have had a nice run with Goose this year as well as finishing Cotton. Ryan did most of the work on Dolly and I’m proud of him for getting her finished to NtCh. I’ve got several young ones to get started on and will continue to hunt Goose in some larger hunts as well as plans to get him bred to some nice females.

Hey Mike I enjoyed our hunt as well. I liked Punkins style as well. Deep and alone with the meat. Goose seems to be passing that to his pups with a limited amount to judge from right now. I’ll post his pedigree.

HUNT

Ryan and I hunted for a little while last night. I was raining some but we cut loose GrNtCh Smokey River Ann and our Spanky pup out of Goose. Ann struck and started a track and Spanky is like his sire and got to himself right handed and struck a track. Both dogs worked into the swamp bottom and were moving pretty good. They ended up in the same area at about 500yds so we walked in closer as the rain had gotten harder. Ann got treed and we headed to her. She was up a large oak that ran into a pine tree. We never could get the coon to look so I don't know if she had him or not. Spanky is a loner and he was 500yds past Ann in the hills. Ryan's garmin showed Spanky treed and we thought we could hear him every once in awhile. We lit out headed to him. About half way there, the bottom fell out. We finally got to Spanky and he was off the side of a greenfield that had a corn feeder sitting in the middle. Spanky was up a small tree that ran into a large hickory tree. We looked as best as we could with rain hitting us in the face but just couldn't find his coon either. We headed to the truck and it was raining hard. Ryan's light was about out and we finally got to the truck. I had Goose and a young male out of Cotton and Bud I call Sam but we decided with the wind and rain, we would call it a night. Gone hit it again tonight! Y'all Keep'em lookin' up!!!

HUNT

Ryan and I hunted for a while last night. First drop we cut Sam and Spanky in some nice hardwood hills. Spanky struck and went left and Sam struck and went straight down a hollow on a small branch. Sam was moving his track good. Sam located but moved. Spanky was moving his track around the hillside and loaded up treed. We got to him and he had the meat. We rolled it out to him. I ended up catching Sam as he got in some rough stuff and bogged down. He hasn't been hunted much at all but has a good mouth and has treed a few coons. Next drop we cut Goose and Scout. Goose went 300yds and hit the creek and went about 500yds down the creek and hit a nice stand of timber and struck. He soon loaded up and we headed to him. He was up a big water oak and we couldn't find his coon. Scout was there but is still just a big dumb pup. Spanky is going to be a nice one. Naturally independent and accurate. He is 14mths old and is out of Goose. Y'all Keep'em Lookin UP!!

HUNT

I hunted for a while last night. Ryan went with me and took Spanky. First drop we cut Spanky and Roxie up a ditch that leads into a creek bottom to right and hardwood hills to the left. Roxie struck to the right and Spanky soon put in with her. It wasn't a good track and they were struggling with it. They finally moved it on out but soon were hung up again. Spanky loaded up treed but didn't sound right. We went to him and he was winding in a patch of privot hedge. We finally caught them up and headed to the truck. Next drop we cut Woody and Sam in a hardwood hollow that runs into a creek bottom. Woody headed across the hollow and up into the hills. Sam came out and ran up the road. I ended up pulling around and catching him up. Woody had made a turn and got into the bottom on the creek. He struck on the creek at about 800yds and we drove around to get closer. He soon treed and we headed to him. He was up a persimmon tree and didn't have a coon. He is a little rusty but I will change that soon. We decided to cut the young dogs on a feeder but they didn't get struck on it. Sam struck a track at 175yds on a ditch. He was coming up the ditch and tried to cross the road so I caught him up. We ended up catching them and calling it a night. Just couldn't get after a track last night. We will keep hammering on them. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' UP!!

HUNT

I hunted for a while last night. Ryan went with me and took Spanky. First drop I cut Woody and Roxie loose in some hardwood hills. Woody struck then Roxie and they headed down the hollow. They soon got deep and split up. Woody located and treed but didn't sound right. Roxie backed him for a minute or two but both dogs hushed and left. They continued towards the bottom which was flooded out by all the rain. The track stalled out and I ended up driving around and catching them up. Next drop we cut Sam and Spanky in another nice hardwood hollow. Dogs hunted good and blew thru the section but never got struck. We caught them on the other side. We decided to go to one of Ryan's spots and I had cut here before and ended up in cutover. We cut Woody and spanky down a branch and Spanky struck. Woody came out and went to the other side of the road. Woody made a big loop and headed into the same area as Spanky. They worked the track up a branch and crossed a gravel road into the cutover. Woody finally treed about 150yds up the branch in the cutover. It wasn't real bad as long as we were on the creek but we had to cut up the hill and it was rough stuff. We finally got the tree and they were up a small pine tree and I don't think there was anyone home. Ryan says he saw the coon but I didn't see anything but water drops. It was 12:00 and 5:30 comes early so I called it a night. We have had a couple of challenging nights of hunting. Trying to get these young dogs on a coon and Woody is bad rusty so trying to set him up to succeed as well. It was 75 degrees last night and spitting rain. It is supposed to cool off here today and this weekend so hopefully coons will start stirring at normal times. I've had deer hunting buddies getting pics on cameras in the early morning and daylight hours. We will keep hammering on these potlickers or cull them all out and start over LOL !! Hunt

I hunted Woody in a UKC slam event Saturday night. We had two 4-dog ntch casts. My cast didn't do any good and ended up with a dead cast. Woody is pretty rusty and I knew he wasn't ready but didn't look too bad. I will get him there in a few weeks. Ryan hunted our Spanky dog out of Goose and won his cast. Gone stay on them. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!

Spanky went right and Sam went left and crossed out of the bottom into the hills and struck. He was struggling with his track and Spanky struck in the bottom. Spanky soon loaded up treed right. We made our way to him and he had the meat. We rolled it out to him. I ended up walking in and catching Sam. Sam has been hunted only a handful of times. He shows independence and has a good mouth. Gone give him a little more time to figure it out. Y'all keep'em Lookin' Up!!

HUNT

Ryan and I hunted Tuesday night but I got busy and didn't get to type up my hunt yesterday. First drop we cut Sam and Dolly in a hardwood hollow. Sam struck and Dolly followed. They moved the track out good and Dolly loaded up at about 475yds. We got to her and Sam was treeing half heartedly. We couldn't find the coon and I think she missed it. We cut them on up the hollow and Dolly ended up crossing over the ridge to the next hollow and loaded up treed again. She was up a big red oak and we just couldn't find him. We cut Woody and Scout in another hollow and they left hard. Of course they went the wrong way and ended up striking in no mans land. Woody loaded up treed right at .85. We drove around to another road and got to .54. We headed to him and finally got to him treed in the edge of a swamp on a huge den tree. We made the long walk back to the truck and called it a night. My wife and Son's birthday was last night so I stayed in but will hit the woods tonight! Y'all Keep'em lookin' UP!!

HUNT

Last week was a blur. I hunted Monday,Tuesday,Thursday and Friday night. Been having some tough hunts with tracks being almost non existent around here. Makes for some frustrating hunts with young dogs. I have been hammering on Woody trying to get him tuned up and he continues to get better. Good motor, big mouth, and hard tree dog. Got to work out a few issues and I will hit some hunts with him. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!!

HUNT

I hunted last night for a while. Ryan went with me and we cut Roxie and Spanky up a creek bottom. Roxie struck a pretty good track and Spanky put in with her. They crossed out of the bottom and headed up in the hills and I soon heard Spanky treeing but had lost communication with Roxie. I could tell as we got closer they were in the ground. It was an underground spring that feeds into the bottom. We pulled them out and walked back towards the bottom and recut. Roxie struck and headed up the bottom. Spanky soon opened a few times with her and Roxie blew up on a tree with a big dying bawl and Spanky rolled up on it with her. We got to the tree and I found the coon pretty quick. Ryan shot it out and the sucker hit me in the side and knocked the breath out of me. Been a while since I had the breath knocked out. I manned up and we petted up the dogs and had a laugh or two about it. Next drop we cut Woody and Scout up a small ditch leading into a swamp. Woody struck a track and started working it up the swamp. Scout was opening some as well. They worked across the swamp and into a grown up pasture and woody located. He didn't sound right but I headed to him. He was barking in a tile that had washed out in a ditch. Tunnels ran everywhere with water running out of them. I gathered the dogs up and we moved to the bottom. We cut Spanky. Woody, and Scout. They left hard and soon split up and were hunting up the creek. They made a right turn and ended up close to a house. We caught them up and called it a night. Bright moon and Cold!! I'm hoping that tracks start to get better soon. I've got some young ones showing lots of potential but I am having a hard time getting them in the right situations due to not having any decent tracks. Woody is doing a lot of things I like but needs to improve and hopefully I can get him back in coondog form. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' up!!

HUNT

Ryan and I hunted for a while last night. We went over and hunted on our public wildlife management area. There isn't much timber left and there is quite a bit of hunting pressure. First drop we cut Woody and my Scout pup up a small creek that runs between some hardwood hills. Woody struck at about 350yds and started a track going up the creek. Scout was opening some with Woody but it wasn't a great track. Woody soon took a right turn and headed up into the hills. He worked for about 475yds and loaded up treed. We made our way to the tree and he had gotten in a pine thicket. He was treed up a small pine that ran into a large pine. I soon spotted the coon up the larger pine. Scout was running around winding and treeing in the air. We knocked the coon out to them and headed out to the truck. We pulled up the road and cut Spanky and Sam on the other side up the same creek. Spanky struck and Sam followed. They were really struggling to move the track. Spanky located and rolled up on a tree but ended up moving on up the creek. We pulled up on a hill to hear better and I heard Sam locate and go on a tree. I made my way in to him and he was treed up a blown over tree that ran into a big beech den and several other trees. I didn't see his coon but was happy he had treed. He has only been hunted a handful of times in his life. We loaded Sam in the truck and Spanky had gotten deep. We were able to pull around and get a little closer. We heard Spanky locate and blow the top out of a tree. He is loud and is an impressive treedog when he is treed right. He was on a large den tree. It was close to 12:00 and about 23 degrees with the moon shining bright so we called it a night. Woody is coming around and hopefully a little fur in his mouth will help. He is a loud, hard tree dog and has got a good motor. I'm going to stay on them!! Y'all keep'em lookin' up!!!!!
