I think they dock 'biters for the curs that have an easy gag reflex. they don't want them to puke them up loose all nutritional value that way.

Esthetic value

The length of a dogs tail is basically a personal preference. Same as with 'dew claws'(single of double)!

Natural bob tail dogs are the result of a mutated gene. The mutated gene is dominant and can produce natural bob tail pups from one parent with the mutation.

I have seen two natural bobtail dogs produce good litters of pups over the years seemingly without any health issues but scientifically can cause smaller litters from homozygous parents or parents that both carry the 'BT' gene.
