Best Ever you are a sheep being herded by a government that you think has your best interest in mind. In about 4 years when they have taxed us to the brink, took rights away that our forefathers have fought for to make us free from government and tries to make the masses dependent on them then YOU may realize that you were a pawn in THEIR game. Both sides are crooks . They do not run to make change they run to get rich. If you have kids and grandchildren take a long look at them. They will be the ones picking up the tab for all the money being spent by both sides. Worst problem is the majority of it is being sent over seas ,not to help Americans . Do you not find it absurd that Democrats sat on their asses and would not help small business ,families,Americans unless the stimulus package was stuffed with foreign aid , but they sure can fast track an impeachment. It should make our blood boil. Where were they when cities were being burned down business being looted, leaving the police with no options. Oh yeah my bad they said those were peaceful protests. You are a perfect example of what they want. Hate every one that does not share their ideal so they can divide us and and slowly slip their agenda in to give us no other option than to have to depend on them to survive. I truly hope that you do not believe a career politician is gonna make things better for us. He is a perfect example of a rags to riches story off the backs of the American people and their hard work.

Repukes need to stay on track!!

THE 7 BIGGEST FAILURES OF TRUMPONOMICS

Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress keep crowing about the economy, when in reality Trumponomics has been a disaster. Here are its 7 biggest failures:

1. Trump promised to bring down America’s trade deficit “as fast as possible.” Instead, the trade deficit has hit an all-time high. The United States is now purchasing more goods and services from the rest of the world than we sell abroad than at any time in history.

2. As a presidential candidate in 2016, he said he could completely eliminate the federal debt in 8 years. Instead, the federal debt has exploded thanksto Trump and the GOP’s $1.9 trillion tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations. They’re already using the growing debt to threaten cuts to Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.

3. He promised to boost the wages of American workers, including a $4,000 pay raise for the average American family. Instead, wages for most Americans have been flat, adjusted for inflation. Meanwhile, over the same period, corporate profits have soared and the rich have become far richer, but the gains haven’t trickled down.

4. His administration said that corporations would invest their savings from tax cuts. Instead, corporations spent more money buying back shares of their own stock in 2018 than they invested in new equipment or facilities. These stock buybacks provide no real benefit for the economy, but boost executive bonuses and payouts for wealthy investors.

5. He promised a tax cut for middle-class families. Instead most Americans will end up paying more by 2027.

6. He promised to keep jobs in America and crack down on companies that ship jobs overseas. Instead, his tax law has created financial incentives for corporations to expand their operations abroad. Trump’s trade wars have also encouraged companies like Harley Davidson to move production overseas.

7. He promised to “drain the swamp” of Washington lobbyists. Instead, he’s put them in charge of health, safety, and environmental protections–which has endangered most Americans while increasing corporate profits even further.

The real recipe for economic growth is to invest in Americans–in their health, education, job training, and infrastructure.

But Trumponomics has exploded the deficit, hurt ordinary Americans, and lined the pockets of the wealthy and corporations.

Don’t let Trump and Republicans claim otherwise.

Trump could not win and even cost the Repukes the Senate but here is a little info. for the ones who can read.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Acting U.S. Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen warned potential domestic terrorists against further attacks as President-elect Joe Biden prepares to take office after pro-Trump insurrectionists attacked the U.S. Capitol last week.

In a video released overnight, Rosen urged the public to come forward with any tips about potential attacks and other threats before Biden's Jan. 20 inauguration as federal law enforcement officials prepare for potential further violence with more planned protests ahead.

"I want to send a clear message to anyone contemplating violence, threats of violence or other criminal conduct: We will have no tolerance whatsoever for any attempts to disrupt the peaceful transfer of power," including "attempts to forcefully occupy government buildings," he said.

"There will be no excuse for violence, vandalism or any other form of lawlessness."

As many as 15,000 National Guard troops, included some armed members, have been ordered to Washington, D.C., to secure the city before Biden's inauguration, with new fencing and other security measures engulfing the U.S. Capitol area. Some congressional leaders have also called for insurrectionists who stormed the Capitol to be placed on no-fly lists.

Rosen's warning was posted online hours after federal prosecutors held their first news conference nearly one week after the Jan. 6 assault as U.S. lawmakers and President Donald Trump's own vice president, Mike Pence, met to certify Biden's victory that left five people dead and lawmakers running for cover.

U.S. law enforcement officials have opened criminal investigations into more than 170 people who stormed the Capitol building and plan to charge some of the most serious offenders with assault and seditious conspiracy, they said on Tuesday.

"Those efforts remain active and will continue until justice is done," Rosen said in his remarks. "There is a lot more to come. The wrongdoers will be held responsible."

Former FBI Director Andy McCabe said it was unclear why Rosen and other top U.S. officials had taken so long to speak publicly, or why Rosen's video was posted overnight, raising further questions about how federal law enforcement responded to the mostly white mob's attack last week compared with the more diverse Black Lives Matters protests last summer.

"It's inexplicable," McCabe told CNN on Wednesday, noting that Rosen and FBI Director Christopher Wray still have not answered questions from the press since the Jan. 6 attack.

The Republican party is out to make this Country a third world and for what, a broke man you claims he is a Billionaire. The Republican party had better take notice, it is over!

NEW YORK (AP) — The PGA canceled its tournament at his golf course. Banks say they won’t lend to him anymore. New York City is looking to end his contract to operate the Central Park skating rink.

Hits to President Donald Trump’s business empire since the deadly riots at the U.S. Capitol are part of a liberal “cancel culture,” his son, Eric, told The Associated Press on Tuesday, saying his father will leave the presidency with a powerful brand backed by millions of voters who will follow him “to the ends of the Earth.”

Related video: PGA pulls 2022 tournament from Trump’s Bedminster after Capitol riot

“We live in the age of cancel culture, but this isn’t something that started this week. It is something that they have been doing to us and others for years,” said Trump, who along with his brother, Donald Jr., have been running the family company since their father took office four years ago. “If you disagree with them, if they don’t like you, they try and cancel you.”

The remarks in an extended interview to the AP come amid an extraordinary backlash against the Trump Organization after thousands of the president’s supporters stormed the Capitol last week in a violent riot seeking to keep lawmakers from confirming Joe Biden’s presidential election victory.

Amid accusations Trump incited the mob, the PGA of America voted to strip its namesake championship from Trump’s Bedminister, New Jersey, golf course next year, a British golf organization said the British Open will not be played at a Trump property in the “foreseeable future,” the e-commerce company Shopify stopped helping run the online Trump Store, and New York City announced it was looking to cancel contracts with Trump for skating rinks and a golf course in the Bronx.

“The president incited a rebellion against the United States government, a clearly unconstitutional act,” Democratic Mayor Bill de Blasio said. “That’s unforgivable.

And potentially most troubling of all, several banks, including one of his biggest lenders, Deutsche Bank, have reportedly said they would no longer lend to Trump’s company, raising the prospect that the president may have to dig into his own pockets to pay off his loans if he can’t refinance.

“We witnessed the president of the United States encouraging the rioters and refraining from calling in the National Guard to protect the Congress in its performance of duty,” said one bank that cut ties, New York’s Signature Bank, once so close to Trump it put his daughter Ivanka on its board.

Eric Trump seemed unruffled but combative as he spoke by phone from his office in Trump Tower. He dismissed the hits as no big threat to a company that has minimal debt –$400 million against billions in assets – and can always tap its vast real estate holdings for cash, not to mention the allegiance of those sticking by the president.

“You have a man who would get followed to the ends of the Earth by a hundred million Americans,” Eric Trump said. “He created the greatest political movement in American history and his opportunities are endless.”

That upbeat assessment notwithstanding, the limited data available for his private company suggest the Trump Organization’s golf properties, as well as other parts of his businesses, may be struggling.

Its two Scottish golf courses have been losing money for years, it had to furlough more than 1,000 workers last year due to the coronavirus, prices of condos in Trump residential buildings have fallen sharply and the company has been unsuccessful in its plans to sell one of its most celebrated properties, the Trump International Hotel in Washington D.C.

One person who does business with members at Trump’s golf club in Bedminster said several members are thinking of freezing their membership after the Capitol riots, and that getting new members to join will be difficult.

“They don’t want to be publicly shamed for being a member of his golf club,” said the person, who requested anonymity because he doesn’t want to lose his clients’ business. “Do you think a guy who works for a financial firm or a drug company wants to see his picture in the paper?”

Along with his father, Eric Trump spoke to the crowd on Jan. 6 before many of them rushed to the Capitol, pushed over barriers, attacked police, vandalized the building and left five people dead.

“Have some backbone. Show some fight. Learn from Donald Trump,” Eric Trump said before urging them to “march on the Capitol."

President Trump said Tuesday during a visit to the border wall in Texas that he bore no responsibility for fomenting the insurrection and warned that efforts to impeach him over his comments threatened only to further divide the country, “which is very dangerous.”

Asked directly in his interview if he felt his father incited the crowd, Eric Trump paused and then the line went dead.

McConnell Reportedly Pleased about Impeachment, Wants to Purge Trump from GOP
Mairead McArdle
Tue, January 12, 2021, 7:02 PM EST

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is reportedly pleased about efforts by Democrats to impeach President Trump a second time, saying he believes the move will make it easier for Republicans to purge Trump from the party.

McConnell has said that he believes Trump committed impeachable offenses and has indicated that he wants to see the specific article of impeachment being put forth by House Democrats, the New York Times reported.

House Democrats filed an article of impeachment against Trump on Monday, charging him with “incitement of insurrection” for his rhetoric before and during the deadly riot at the Capitol last week when Trump supporters broke past security and forced their way into the halls of Congress.

The House is scheduled to vote Wednesday on impeachment. Two Republican House members, Liz Cheney of Wyoming and Adam Kinzinger of Illinois, have already announced they will support impeachment. The White House expects up to a dozen more Republicans to defect as well.

Meanwhile, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy has reportedly asked fellow Republicans if he should ask Trump to resign in the wake of the violence. McCarthy has indicated that he would support a censure of the president over the riot and has meanwhile decided not to urge his fellow Republicans to vote against impeachment, despite the California congressman’s personal opposition to it.

The violence at the Capitol on January 6 ended with five dead and prompted bipartisan condemnation of Trump’s exhortations to his supporters at the rally in front of the White House earlier in the day.

“I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard,” the president told his supporters at the rally, but he warned, “If you don’t fight like hell, you’re not going to have a country anymore.”

On Tuesday, Trump denied responsibility for inciting the violence.

“They’ve analyzed my speech and my words and my final paragraph, my final sentence. And everybody to the tee thought it was totally appropriate,” the president told reporters.

New York City to end multi-million dollar deals with Trump after ‘inciting rebellion’
Justin Vallejo

The mayor wants to end the city’s contracts with the Trump Organization

The mayor wants to end the city’s contracts with the Trump Organization

New York mayor Bill de Blasio said he wants to end the city's business contracts with Donald Trump after his supporters stormed the US Capitol.

"The president incited a rebellion against the United States government, clearly unconstitutional act and people died. That's unforgivable," Mr de Blasio said at his daily press conference.

"So, our legal team is right now assessing the options. And as quickly as we come to a resolution, we're going to have something to say, but yes, there are several contracts with the City of New York and they're all under review right now."

The Trump Organization has made about $17m from running two ice rinks, a carousel and a golf course in New York City’s public parks, according to the most recent financial disclosures reported by The Washington Post.

The Trump Organization did not immediately respond to The Independent's request for comment.

New York is the latest in a series of companies and organizations indicating they would cut ties with the president following the riot at Capitol Hill, including Signature Bank, Shopify, PGA of America, and the British golf association.

A spokeswoman for the mayor, Laura Feyer, did not provide a timeline on when the city could end its contracts with the Trump Organization, which include Wollman and Lasker ice skating rinks in Central Park, and the Jack Nicklaus-designed Ferry Point golf course near the East River.

Ms Feyer said in a statement to The Independent that the riots were a "national abomination".

“The attacks on our Capital killed a police officer, left four rioters dead, exposed lawmakers to COVID-19 and threatened the constitutional transfer of power," Ms Feyer said.

"We’re reviewing whether legal grounds exist in light of these new circumstances to terminate concessions with the Trump Organization.”

Obviously Required to Provide It’: Trump Given Deadlines to Produce DNA in E. Jean Carroll’s Defamation Lawsuit

President Donald Trump was given a series of deadlines to produce his DNA and other evidence as part of mandatory discovery in an ongoing defamation lawsuit on Monday.

E. Jean Carroll is an author and Elle advice columnist who accused the 45th president of raping her sometime in late 1995 or early 1996. She initially made that accusation—one of over 20 sexual assault allegations against Trump—during the summer of 2019. Trump later denied the accusation in an interview with The Hill and Caroll subsequently sued for defamation in New York.

A letter sent by Carroll’s attorneys notes that prior deadlines for the production of the DNA evidence were put on hold by an appeals court pending the outcome of a decision in a similar case filed by former Apprentice contestant Summer Zervos–who alleged that Trump sexually assaulted her in 2007.

“As a result of that decision, the relevant deadlines in the Court’s Preliminary Conference Order dated December 12, 2020 are no longer ‘temporarily stayed,” the letter sent to Trump attorney Marc Kasowitz notes. “This letter sets forth our understanding of the current status of this case and discovery in this case as a result of the Court’s recent decision.”

The appeals court previously pushed back the relevant discovery deadlines for a period comprising “the amount of time from January 31 [2020] to the date of the Court’s decision on Defendant’s motion to stay, plus five business days.”

Trump’s defense team had requested the temporary hold, but on August 7 the New York Supreme Court said the hold should expire before then.

Justice Verna Saunders determined that a recent landmark U.S. Supreme Court ruling had forced the state court’s hand to decide in favor of the plaintiff. That ruling was the result of a subpoena for the 45th president’s financial records filed by Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance.

“This court construes the holding in Vance applicable to all state court proceedings in which a sitting President is involved, including those involving his or her unofficial/personal conduct,” Saunders wrote.

“We are now eager to move forward with discovery so that we can prove that Donald Trump defamed E. Jean Carroll when he lied about her in connection with her brave decision to tell the truth about the fact that Donald Trump had sexually assaulted her,” Caroll’s attorney Roberta Kaplan said last week.

The upshot of the state court’s ruling is that the parties in the defamation lawsuit will now commence with discovery–while still more or less abiding by the original time frame for the pause.

Since the stay was extinguished on August 7, 2020, discovery production must now be back on track by August 14, 2020 because that’s when the “five business days” requirement is up. Trump could, however, appeal the state supreme court’s August 7 ruling.

“[Trump’s] deadline to respond to [Carroll’s] Second Set of Document Requests (originally January 30, 2020) is now August 14, 2020, and the date set by [Carroll’s] First Notice to Submit to Physical Examination (originally March 2, 2020) is now September 15, 2020,” Kaplan wrote on Monday. “We can be flexible with respect to the location and method for obtaining [Trump’s] DNA sample in order to accommodate security needs or other issues. Please let us know if you would like to discuss.”

The letter also rubs Trump’s nose in the Vance decision:

Because the United States Supreme Court has made it clear that Presidents are not exempt from giving testimony in civil cases, we fully expect that Defendant will testify in a timely manner. President Clinton made time to testify under oath about allegations of sexual harassment, and so President Trump can surely make time to testify about allegations of sexual assault and defamation. His testimony about what he did (and what he said) will strike to the very heart of the case and offer evidence that cannot be obtained from any other sources. He is obviously required to provide it.

“We are hopeful that [Trump] now recognizes, as did Judge Saunders, that Trump v. Vance leaves no doubt that his claim to presidential immunity necessarily fails,” the letter concludes. “If you intend to appeal Judge Saunders’ decision to the First Department, however, please let us know when you would like to meet and confer about such an appeal. Trump could be called at any time but it looks like it could be as early as Feb. 2021

Trump's nightmare scenario of being impeached, convicted, then barred from public office for life is looking more and more likely

Shorn of GOP support after the riot at the US Capitol, President Donald Trump is facing a three-part reckoning in Congress.

The House is due to vote Wednesday on impeaching him for his role encouraging last week's violence.

Republicans have been moving in support of such a move, making it likely to succeed.

In the Senate, which would conduct Trump's trial, once-loyal Republicans are also said to be wavering, raising the prospect that he could also be convicted.

An even harsher reckoning could come after a conviction, if Congress voted to bar him from office, ending any hope of a 2024 run.

It remains to be seen whether the GOP revolt against Trump will be widespread enough for this to happen — but the prospect is looming larger than ever before.

Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.

With Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Rep. Liz Cheney moving in support of President Donald Trump's impeachment, a nightmare scenario for the president is moving closer to reality.

The congressional GOP was vocal in its support of Trump the first time he was impeached, with only one Republican senator, Mitt Romney of Utah, voting to convict him on one of the two charges over his dealings with Ukraine.

This time the situation is very different.

With Trump set to become the first US president to be impeached twice, Republican support for him is collapsing. This opens him up to the possibility of three reckonings, each more damaging than the last:

Trump could be impeached in a House vote Wednesday - which appears almost certain to happen.

He could be convicted by the Senate, a scenario that had been viewed as highly unlikely but is now being discussed as a real possibility.

If Trump is convicted, Congress can move to bar him from public office for life.

Conviction in a Senate impeachment trial requires a two-thirds majority, meaning Democrats would need at least 17 Republicans to vote with them for Trump's removal.

According to The New York Times, as many as 15 have seemed open to voting to convict. That count came before McConnell and Cheney made their positions known, which could prompt more Republicans to follow.

A Wednesday-morning article from Axios, citing Republican sources, also spoke of a wholesale move in the party against the president.

An impeachment conviction would not automatically bar Trump from holding office, but a further move could.

The Senate could follow a conviction with another vote to block him from doing so, requiring a simple majority to pass. It would end any hopes of Trump seizing back the presidency with a run in 2024.

There are complications, though.

President-elect Joe Biden is set to be inaugurated on January 20. For an impeachment conviction to remove Trump from office, the Senate would have to finish its work within a week.

Traditionally, impeachment trials are drawn-out affairs, with scores of witnesses called and extensive deliberation.

McConnell also indicated last week that a trial could not be held before January 20, as Congress will be in recess.

Overturning this would require a unanimous Senate vote, an unlikely prospect given the pockets of Senate support for Trump, as noted by the legal expert Markus Wagner.

But a trial could still take place later, convicting Trump even after he has left office.

Such a trial could take place with the Democrats in control of the chamber, thanks to the party's recent victories in Georgia's runoffs.

Sens.-elect Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock are due to take office by late January, which would tilt the odds toward Democrats and give them more procedural control.

Though some experts believe that such a trial would be unconstitutional, others say there is nothing in the Constitution expressly forbidding it.

"Once an impeachment begins in the House, it may continue to a Senate trial. I don't see any constitutional problem with the Senate acting fast or slowly," Michael Gerhardt, a law professor at the University North Carolina at Chapel Hill, told NBC News.

Another obstacle might be the widespread support Trump still has among grassroots Republicans.

Having been ejected from Twitter, Trump will no longer be able to bully and cajole senators on social media. But the lingering prospect of his supporters turning against them could be enough to discourage them from voting to convict the president.

A supporter of the US president who was arrested at the Capitol riot was said to have died by suicide.

A medical examiner in Fulton County, Atlanta, ruled on Tuesday that the death of Christopher Stanton Georgia was by suicide, confirming earlier reports.

The 53-year-old was also said to have suffered a “gunshot wound to the chest”, the medical examiner said.

He was found by his wife in the basement of their home in Alpharetta, Georgia, on Saturday, according to reports.

Georgia, who was said to have been a regional portfolio manager at a North Carolina bank, was arrested in Washington DC on Wednesday evening after taking part in the riot on the Capitol.

According to the Washington Examiner, he was charged with attempting to break into the US Capitol alongside supporters of the US president.

They had earlier been instructed by the president to march on the country’s legislature with “strength”.

Georgia, who pleaded not guilty in court on Thursday, was also charged with violating an evening curfew in Washington DC that was imposed after the riot.

He was said to have stayed behind, and did not disperse at a police request.

Officers were called to his home in Alpharetta on Saturday morning, having received a phone call from his wife.

According to a police report seen by the Daily Mail, she told officers there was "blood everywhere" and that “My husband is dead".

Police were also reported to have removed two rifles from the property.

The 53 year-old’s death follows that of five others who died following Wednesday’s riot.

They included a Capitol Police officer and supporters of Donald Trump, some of whom were said to have suffered medical emergencies, while one other was shot.

The FBI said on Tuesday that more than 70 people had been arrested in relation to Wednesday’s riot, with federal prosecutors expecting “hundreds” of others.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is 'pleased' at the prospect of Trump being impeached, new report says, get it done!

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell believes President Donald Trump has committed multiple impeachable offenses and is "pleased" at the idea of him being impeached, according to The New York Times.

McConnell thinks that Trump being impeached and then potentially convicted and removed from office by the US Senate "will make it easier to purge him from the party," The Times said on Tuesday.

McConnell, once one of Trump's most powerful allies, now reportedly plans to never speak to him again in the wake of Wednesday's deadly insurrection at the US Capitol. Trump caused a riot Mitch said.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy is said to be talking to GOP colleagues about whether he should ask Trump to resign, per The Times.

Scroll back up to restore default view.
The Democratic-controlled House is expected to vote on impeaching Trump on a charge of inciting an insurrection on the US Capitol on Wednesday. This would make Trump the first president in American history to be impeached twice.

McConnell thinks that Trump being impeached and then potentially convicted and ousted from office by the US Senate "will make it easier to purge him from the party," The Times said, citing people familiar with his thinking.

McConnell has been one of Trump's most steadfast allies who stood by the embattled president during his first Senate impeachment trial in January 2020. Now, however, the pair appear to be on the outs.

Trump and McConnell have reportedly not spoken since mid-December, when McConnell publicly acknowledged Trump's election loss in a December 15 speech on the Senate floor and congratulated President-elect Joe Biden on his victory. McConnell reportedly plans to never speak to Trump again over his role in inciting violence at the Capitol as well as his lack of leadership in responding to the insurrection.

In addition to the Capitol siege, The Times said that McConnell blames Trump for Republicans losing two critical Senate seats in Georgia in the dual January 5 runoff elections, which not only cost Republicans control of the upper chamber but personally cost McConnell his job as Senate majority leader.

McConnell wants to fully review the article of impeachment the House plans to vote on before taking a public position on impeachment or censure, but he wants to do some damage to Trump's career prospects on his way out the door, according to The Times.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, for his part, is personally opposed to impeachment but is open to the idea of formally censuring Trump in Congress, the Times reported. He has talked to colleagues about asking Trump to resign from office before his term ends on January 20.

Unlike during Trump's first House impeachment trial in December 2019, McCarthy has not "whipped" his caucus against voting for impeachment. Up to a dozen House Republicans could vote to impeach Trump, The Times said. That list includes Republican Caucus Chair Rep. Liz Cheney, who has been vocally critical of Trump since the Capitol siege.

Also on Tuesday afternoon, GOP Rep. John Katko of New York became the first House Republican to publicly come out in favor of impeaching Trump. Katko is one of just a few Republicans representing a congressional district won by both Biden in 2020 and Hillary Clinton in 2016.

Katko was closely followed by Cheney, a congresswoman from Wyoming, who said that she too "will vote to impeach the president."

Last week, GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois became the first Republican lawmaker to publicly state his support for Vice President Mike Pence invoking the 25th Amendment to remove Trump's presidential powers. He was followed by Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska urging Trump to resign from office.

"I want him to resign. I want him out. He has caused enough damage," said Murkowski, the first GOP senator to make such a request of the president.

Report: 'Isolated And Angry' Trump Refuses To Pay Rudy Giuliani For Legal Work
Ed Mazza·Overnight Editor, HuffPost
Wed, January 13, 2021, 10:25 PM EST

President Donald Trump is reportedly taking out his frustrations on his personal attorney and longtime friend, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani. Just like he has done to many others, not pay his bills.

And he’s doing it in the classic Trump fashion: by refusing to pay him.

The Washington Post said Trump is trying to stiff Giuliani, who has spent the past months traveling the country and spreading wild conspiracy theories about the November election on behalf of the president.

Citing two unnamed officials, the newspaper said Trump has not only refused to pay Giuliani’s legal fees but has told aides that all reimbursement requests for travel and other expenses need to go through him.

The Post said Trump was unhappy with Giuliani’s demand for $20,000 a day in fees and “has privately expressed concern” with some of his attorney’s moves.

The former mayor last year denied seeking that specific amount, claiming a much more unusual fee structure instead.

“I never asked for $20,000,” he told The New York Times in November. “The arrangement is we’ll work it out at the end.”

The Times on Wednesday confirmed the latest Post report, adding that White House officials were blocking Giuliani’s calls to Trump. What is this not censorship?

Giuliani last week demanded “trial by combat” during a rally in Washington as Congress met to certify the election results that he had been challenging in courts on behalf of Trump, who later urged the crowd at the rally to march on the Capitol.

Shortly after, the Trump supporters stormed the Capitol in a deadly siege that disrupted the congressional proceedings for hours and forced lawmakers into hiding as the mob ransacked the building.

The president’s critics on Twitter took note of his growing feud with his attorney:

KAREN MATTHEWS
Wed, January 13, 2021, 8:31 AM EST
NEW YORK (AP) — New York City will terminate business contracts with President Donald Trump after last week's insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Wednesday.

“I’m here to announce that the city of New York is severing all contracts with the Trump Organization,” de Blasio said in an interview on MSNBC.

De Blasio said the Trump Organization earns about $17 million a year in profits from its contracts to run two ice skating rinks and a carousel in Central Park as well as a golf course in the Bronx.

The city can legally terminate a contract if the leadership of a company is engaged in criminal activity, the Democratic mayor said.

“Inciting an insurrection — let’s be very clear, let’s say the words again — inciting an insurrection against the United States government clearly constitutes criminal activity," he said.

A Trump Organization spokesperson said the city can't cancel the contracts.

“The City of New York has no legal right to end our contracts and if they elect to proceed, they will owe The Trump Organization over $30 million dollars," the spokesperson said in an emailed statement. "This is nothing more than political discrimination, an attempt to infringe on the First Amendment and we plan to fight vigorously.”

The move to end Trump's business contracts in the city he formerly called home is the latest example of how the Jan. 6 breach by violent Trump supporters is affecting the Republican president’s business interests.

The PGA of America voted Sunday to take the PGA Championship away from his New Jersey golf course next year, a move that came after social media platforms disabled Trump’s accounts and Shopify took down online stores affiliated with him.

De Blasio had said earlier that the city was examining its legal options to end the Trump contracts. He said Wednesday that city lawyers determined that if Trump sues over the move, the city would win. Trump “incited a mob to attack the Capitol,” de Blasio said, adding, “the lawyers looked at it and it was just as clear as a bell that’s grounds for severing these contracts and we’re moving to do that right away.”

Jim Johnson, the head of the city law department, said the PGA's move to cut ties with Trump gives the city additional grounds to terminate the golf course contract.

“One of the reasons that he was given that contract was his ability to attract major golf tournaments,” Johnson said at a briefing with the mayor. After the PGA's action last weekend, Johnson said, “we’re entitled to and are invoking our provisions, our right to declare him in default."

The split with Trump's namesake company won't happen immediately, though. De Blasio said in a news release that terminating contract to run the Ferry Point golf course in the Bronx is complex “and is expected to take a number of months.”

Termination of the contract to run Wollman Rink and Lasker Rink in Central Park will take effect 30 days after written notice is delivered, de Blasio said. Termination of the contract to run the carousel, which is now closed because of the coronavirus pandemic, will take effect 25 days after written notice.

The city will seek new vendors for all the attractions, the mayor said.

Removing the Trump name from the rinks, carousel and golf course won't erase him from New York City. He will still operate Trump Tower on Manhattan's Fifth Avenue and the Trump International Hotel on Central Park West. Trump moved his official residence from Trump Tower to Florida in 2019.

States likely saw roughly the same number of individuals file for first-time unemployment benefits last week as during the prior week, with the weekly pace of new jobless claims easing slightly from December’s elevated levels.

The U.S. Department of Labor is set to release its weekly report on new jobless claims Thursday morning at 8:30 a.m. ET. Here were the main results expected in the report, compared to consensus estimates compiled by Bloomberg:

Initial jobless claims, week ended Jan. 9: 789,000 expected vs. 787,000 during the prior week

Continuing claims, week ended Jan. 2: 5.000 million expected vs. 5.072 million during the prior week

New initial unemployment claims are expected to dip below 800,000 for a third straight week, showing signs of a tentative return to a downtrend after claims spiked throughout much of December. Initial jobless claims have stayed below the 1 million mark in every week since late August, after peaking at a record nearly 7 million in March.

“Recent jobless claims data suggest December may mark the trough in recent labor market weakness, particularly with additional fiscal support in the pipeline,” Nomura Chief Economist Lewis Alexander said in a note. “However, significant downside risks for the labor market will persist until the pandemic comes more under control in the U.S.”

While both new and continuing jobless claims have eased significantly from their pandemic-era highs, both remain well above levels from before the pandemic, when new jobless claims were averaging at just over 200,000 per week and continuing claims were coming in well below 2 million. And last week’s December jobs report showed that the U.S. economy was still about 9.8 million payrolls short of its February levels, with a still-elevated unemployment rate and depressed labor force participation rate. Though the vaccine rollout and additional fiscal stimulus may have alleviated some of the pressure, some economists are bracing for a multi-year recovery in the labor market.

“Weekly jobless claims were 787,000 to start the new year for the January 2 week which indicates the recession in the labor market isn’t over yet and hardship remains for millions of Americans without paychecks,” Chris Rupkey, chief financial economist for MUFG Union Bank, said in a note.

Based on last week’s data, more than 19 million Americans were still claiming unemployment benefits of some form, including 12.9 million individuals on pandemic-era federal unemployment programs.

This post will be updated with the results of the Labor Department’s weekly jobless claims report Thursday at 8:30 a.m. ET. Check back for updates.
