Coon season has been a bit slow this year so far because we are moving, but moving is getting about wrapped up, and Terry, Zeb, and Colton came over this weekend to liven things up.

Aubrey and Zeb had a good hunt Friday night with NITECH CH Fury (Rip x Rose), NITECH CH Walter (Rip x Rose), NITECH GRFCH GRCH Mischief (Ox x Trouble), and Heat (Ox x Fury).

Aub and Zeb had a fun night last night. There was a lot of tree power in that group.....Aub took a video, but Photobucket isn't uploading it.....I'll have to see if I can work on it. Aubrey was pretty excited to see Zeb's female Phyllis (Ox x Fury) go.....she's a top prospect. She's never had a coon shot out to her before last night. Phyllis ran and treed her first night to the woods and has been doing it ever since = pure natural.....what we like to see.

Ox is still doing well. He is 9, and will be 10 in December We do hope to be able to make a couple more crosses on him yet, live cover. We do have some semen on him, but obviously that will be used rather selectively.

A somewhat interesting story.....We were wanting to breed our Baby dog this time around, and Ox and Rip were both dogs we considered, so we decided that Rip would be the one to try since he is now 11. We were not sure if he was sterile, though we had him drawn last year, and his sperm count was still very good, but the vet has said these things can change quickly. So, we bred Baby to Rip on the first day she would stand......9/21/16. Rip died the next day. So, to say we were skeptical that the breeding would take would be an understatement. It seems to have though, Baby appears to be bred! Hopefully we can get the Ox x Baby cross made too.....and hopefully she doesn't kill him.

Jay, here is the pup. She had just filled up on venison, so she's a bit bloated, but overall I think she has potential. Ricochet is her name, or Shay for short. We need some help with the registered name though, if anyone has any ideas. By the way, we got your text and love the name of that blue pup!

Temps are warming up, coon are moving, and I guess it's time to start getting the dogs back in shape (what a short winter!). Aubrey and the kids took out Baby & Taterchips for a drop last night and they did a fine job.

Aubrey took Baby & Chips last night, and he also threw in Goose. She is just a touch over a year old. He took her 2 nights during season last year, and she showed a lot of potential, but came into heat so he wasn't able to work her anymore. Last night was her 3rd night to the woods, and she did a great job running track, and treed really hard.

Aubrey took our newest addition to the kennel out the other night, and she spit treed with a coon. We'd like to thank Terry Goza for allowing NITECH CH Goza's Sing Along Country Girl to come to Red Fever Redbones. Our plans are to finish her out to Quad Champion, and very possibly Quad Grand, and also use her in the breeding program. She is another top female off of our GRNITECH GRFCH GRWCH GRCH Red Fever Hot Iron Ox (who would be 5th on the current reproducers list if/when we have another litter off of him) and Terry's NITECH CH Goza's Sing Along Wild Rose (who is currently sitting at #10 on the Historical females list).

Congrats to handler Scott Schmitt and Sugar (Ox x Rose), on their overall high score of hunt and 1st place win last at Decorah, IA. That win finishes Sugar to NITECH! (She also had a 2nd place win last year at the Heartland Classic, and 1st at the Iowa Youth Hunt). That's another NITECH for Ox (interesting fact I noticed recently....all of Ox's NITECH's are females), and another NITECH for Rose.....which should push Rose up to about 6th on the Historical Female Reproducers List! Congrats to all owners & handlers of this female, she is a nice one!
