Hunt Question??

In a 3 dog cast. Dog A,B and,C are all struck in. Dogs go out of hearing and according to the garmin map they are heading for a road. Time out is called due to the dogs being in danger. After we drive around to the area the dogs were last seen on the garmin they are all treed on different trees several hundred yards apart. The dogs were never declared treed because time out was called so we could get to them before they hit the road. We went to all dogs tree to get them while we were in timeout. The strike points were deleted and no tree points awarded. All 3 had a coon. Was this the correct way to handle this?

This is how I always handled it. If we drove around and they were not actually in danger then call time back in and continue hunting. I always gave a minute or so before calling time back in so we could be sure all dogs were safe and there was no true danger, kinda to get the bearings. If they are all treed we split the tree points, if not just call time back in and continue hunting. You called time out for a legitimate reason. You thought the dogs were in danger. They were not. Nothing says you can't call time back in again if no dogs have been messed with provided the cast agrees that they are not in danger.

Don't do that too much tough or UKC will consider it hunting from a vehicle. That was stated in an advisor long ago.

You handled it correctly. If you call time out, all dogs must be handled before you can recast them and start the time again.

Thanks Richard. I thought that was the correct way to handle it but I have an Armchair QB buddy that says we handled it the wrong way. Lol

Yes you are correct. I had that wrong.

I was mixing up agreeing to drive around to check on them when they were out of pocket but that was without calling time out. Once you call time out treed dogs can be scored but the others can not. My mistake.

Now I know I will get hews and crys about driving around, but it is permitted rarely and the advisor that said it did warn if you do it too often then you would be considered hunting from a vehicle.

No only the dogs that were treed before the time out can be scored. Dogs that were declared treed when you called time out are to be scored the others can not be.
