Keep Hunting
My thoughts on this. I have a female here that kinda showed the same thing but has matured out of it. A few ideas.
Have you ever heard the saying about a young dog going through a stupid stage. In my opinion a very young dog will take a hot easy track and tree a pop up and look like they are really doing a bang up job. They don't have the ability or experience or maturity to grub up an old track or work old scent or use the wind currents yet. As they get more hunting they sometimes go through a stage where increased desire and confidence grows but ability hasn't caught up yet. Just keep hunting and let her work it out. Absolutely don't knock out any coon unless she earns it. When she finally settles talk her up good. But the most important thing is keep hunting her.
Back to my comment I made earlier about my female. She comes from a line of very accurate dogs that are good about checking the tree. She will sometimes run a hot track and blow up the tree but most of the time she will work a track, locate then get down and check and sometimes check again. She started out very loose on the tree and made you feel she lacked the ability to finish a track like you mentioned. She is real careful and has gotten better about settling on the tree. She might not make a great competition dog as far as getting first tree but gosh she always has the coon. I hunt with a buddy that has a young blk&tan dog that will tree on any tree or vine a coon has touched and most of the time slick. He will lock down on a tree, she will go check and take the track away from the tree 99 percent of the time. She has a good nose and gets most all the strikes, she will take a track and he will follow her, she locates then gets down to check he blows up the tree before she really locks down. She is just now starting to settle down better on the tree but I love how she will not pay attention to him or back him on a slick. I believe in running a dog alone as much as possible but it makes it hard when your best friend and hunting buddy wants to hunt with you and good friends are hard to find. So your female may be going through a stage where she is trying to do more checking so try to ride it out. There are always a few burps along the way. Good luck.
