Looking for a nice, broke, accurate Coon Dog
Looking for a nice, broke, accurate dog
Haven't ever coon hunted much...only rabbit and squirrel. I am looking for a nice, completely broke hound to get started with. I don't want to walk in to a bunch of slick trees, I don't want a dog that is timid or backwards, and I don't want one that will run trash. I am looking for a dog that you turn loose, he goes hunting, and you find him under a coon. I don't know a ton about coon hunting yet, so I would like a dog that is going to be teaching me more then I am teaching it. I don't want to get started with a bad taste in my mouth, so I prefer a nice hound. Prefer the dog not be over 5-6 so I get a few good years of hunting.
I would also like to either be able to try the hound for a week or two to see if it is something I am interested in (with cash in hand of course) Or be within a few hrs to try the hound out in the woods with the owner. I am located in Southern, IN. I know the hound I am looking for might not be real cheap, but also don't want to spend no 4 or 5 thousand dollars either.
Maybe the hound I am looking for is out there...maybe not. Let me know if you think you may be able to help me out!
I currently do not own a coon dog and don't plan on getting more then 1 dog, so the dog must be able to do it all by himself/herself.
