Tar, think I figured out the Possum Problem.

10 generations ago a Possum was sharing some Muscadine Grapes with an old boar coon and he got frisky. The outcome has been way to many Possums in a coonhounds tree. We blame the dogs. Go figure!

Are possums a "problem"? They taste a lot better than coons. I wonder when, why and who decided that it was alright to tree coons but not possums? Do any of you long time hunters know?

Coon hides were worth more. Maybe in todays market someone (Tar) should start some possum hunts.

Possum dogs

Years ago, there were not many coons in these mountains, most hunters had possum dogs that would tree a coon. A straight coon dog would have been useless back then. Now we have several coons and nobody wants their dog to tree a possum. Lol. Dave

not many possums in the ozark hills during the depression .my pap said they only would only tree 1 or two a week. lucky to have one to eat for sunday dinner . it was a good skunk dog that put extra $ in your pocket and were highly sought after .lol
